When I was a kid mom said here's a bat and a ball go outside and have fun. Later every summer I worked at a gas station. Never went to camp. Still haven't been to Costa Rica to look at the turtles. Somehow I have survived and become somewhat successful. Go figure.

Well we must shut down these camps immediately. I mean after all how can we have camps that the hoodrats can't go to? It's unfair and racist. /s

Oh. Right. The same reason we can't give them vouchers to attend private school.
It just wouldn't do to give them an opportunity to actually learn something.

We give them free breakfast and lunch while school is in session so I guess we must provide free summer camp while school is out.

Last spring, Leon-Sanchez applied to a summer Stanford University program that appealed to his interest in medicine and would enhance his college resume. But his family couldn't afford the $3,000 price tag. So instead, the 16-year-old is doing a community-organizing internship Great, just what the world needs, another community organizer. /s

The stark contrast between the summer activities of the Bay Area's have and have-not children not only highlights ethnic and class differences but also distinguishes who is likely to succeed What? You mean in the liberal paradise that is the Bay Area, there is a growing gap between the haves and the have-nots??? You mean that the "haves" get to go to exclusive summer camps that don't let poor inner city kids in on scholarship????? You mean that the rich limousine Libs who send their kids to these camps don't want their kids rubbing shoulders with the poor???

The Race Card is losing it’s cachet so we see the Class Envy Card being played more often.
Many kids spent their summers playing sandlot baseball and swimming in the local creek and didn’t even realize liberals considered them deprived.
Most went on to live well-adjusted, productive lives and didn’t spend their time hating the family across town that had a newer car.

Well even with vouchers it would be to white. We would have to have Ghetto camps.
List of Activities: 1. The art of the Rap. 2. Drive by shooting 101. 3. Car Jacking by the numbers. 4. Urban Rioting Basics 5. How to get pregnant every time. 6. Defrauding the welfare office for dummies. 7. How to cut coke etc. 8. How to play the race card.

My summer camp was to survive prolonged contact with larger, stronger, cousins and friends without being called a sissy or ostracized. Basically plain old survival. To survive contact with large, strong livestock and dangerous equipment. haha! I barely made it!

The gap doesn’t happen because rich kids go to camp and poor kids don’t. It’s because some kids do constructive stuff over the summer that promotes and consolidates learning, and other kids don’t.
You don’t have to go to summer camp to read a book, teach yourself a little bit of a new language, practice your math, write a story.

Summer camp? I did that once with the Scouts. Made
Eagle Scout in spite of only one swat at camp. Some
scouts did it every Summer. Big deal.
