You beat me to it. Truman liberals, like my father, JFK, LBJ, Carter, and more recently Lieberman, were supporters of Israel, but true leftists have always been anti-Israel and anti-Jew: Israel has been the perfect whipping boy for their political BDSM fantasies, and Jews the perfect foil to deflect attacks on the perpetual failure of their ideology. (That God loves Israel and Satan hates Israel is the underlying motivation, but most leftists are useful idiots and don't recognize this.)
