What 'small country' did Hillary Clinton lead?

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Sunday that she knows how difficult it is "to be the leader of a relatively small country."

Come again?

I know I’m relatively young, but I think I would have remembered President or Prime Minister or Queen Hillary.

Clinton made the comments on CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" while discussing the conflict between Israel and Hamas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu.

“I’ve known Bibi a long time and I have a very good relationship with him, in part because we can yell at each other – and we do,” Clinton said. “And I was often the designated yeller.”

Clinton said she would often call Netanyahu to tell him to stop expanding Jewish settlements in what the Israeli leader called at the time: “Places that are on the map of Israel's strategic interests.”

“Something would happen – a new settlement announcement would come – and I would call him up [and say] ‘What are you doing? You’ve got to stop this’ and we understood each other,” Clinton said.

How did Clinton understand Netanyahu?

“I know how hard it is to be the leader of a relatively small country that is under constant pressure and does face a lot of legitimate threats to its existence from those around it,” Clinton said.

Oh, okay. But again, when was she the leader of a country? She was the first lady of Arkansas, which last I checked was not a country. She was the first lady of the United States, but she wasn’t the leader and the U.S. is hardly a "relatively small" country (it’s the third most populous country and the third largest in square miles).

She was a U.S. senator from New York for eight years, but again she wasn't the leader of the state and despite what some from New York might believe, it's not a country. She was also the secretary of state, and though she was the leader of the State Department, that's also not a country and she still answered to President Obama.

So what "relatively small country" did Clinton lead?

“Is she an invalid?”

I explicitly noted exceptions.
