The people in Gaza voted for Hamas to lead them.
It isn’t like those states and Gaza are run by dictatorships.
With democracy comes responsibility. The number of benevolent, fair and just dictatorships in human history is vanishingly small, and it never lasts more than one generation.

We are a representative Republic, are we not?
My point is that the people who cause this to happen are the ones with the political influence, usually because they have the cash to buy influence. And, as usual, they are never around to reap the whirlwind of what they’ve sown.
The average voter expects whomever is elected to office that they govern in a responsible way. It is reasonable to expect the states not to allow its citizens to freeze over the winter. Many Americans are not as informed as you. Maybe they don’t have the time or inclination, or they lack understanding.
