New England Facing Power Shortage This Winter?

“Get ready for the New England power shortage,” reads the headline in The Spectator. “Governors are already meeting in emergency session.”

“In a hell-bent campaign to rid itself of any form of dirty, messy “non-renewable” energy, New England has been closing down coal and oil plants for the last decade,” the article warns. “In 2000, 18 percent of New England’s electricity came from coal and 22 percent from oil. Today it’s 3 percent coal and 1 percent oil. Meanwhile, natural gas — the fuel that everybody loves until you have to drill for it — has risen from 15 percent to a starkly vulnerable 52 percent, just behind California.

“There’s only one problem. New England doesn’t have the pipelines to bring in the gas.”

Thanks to Bill Gannon for this link

“If these predictions are correct or nearly correct, looks like the Northeast will have brownouts or possibly blackouts this winter,” says Bill. “My prediction comes from the fact that the EPA has reduced power generation in the Northeast by forcing older coal plants to shut down.

“The natural gas plants only store gas on site. Why? Because environmentalists won’t let pipelines be built. How about power from Canada’s hydro power dams? Those same pesky environmentalists, fight tooth and nail to keep transmission lines from spoiling the scenery.

Environmentalists….they call themselves green because they’re too yellow to admit they’re really reds.”

Well, the Greenie Environuts have done a whiz bang job of making sure the New England states freeze this coming winter.

1. Close coal and oil fired generating plants.
2. Close down one of four of the major nuclear plants in NE (Vermont Yankee).
3. NE has gone to 60% natural gas without the pipelines to bring in enough. The NE now consumes twice the natural gas as any other area, including California,
4. Greenies oppose building the pipelines to bring in gas to run the natural gas generating plants.
5. Utilities have had to bring on diesel generator plants as backup sources, and this upsets the Greenies.
6. NE states want to bring electrical power from Canadian hydroelectric generating plants, but Greenies oppose the building of towers to carry the power lines. Instead, they want to build them underground (at HUGE costs).
7. Wind turbines are not favored because the Greenies think they look bad and they kill birds.
8. Greenies want the EPA to outlaw wood burning stoves.

Why, yes, I think I can predict with some confidence that the NE states will be sitting in the dark and freezing this winter. Thanks to the Greenies and NIMBY folks in the NE states, the average citizens are so screwed!

And as a result they should be held responsible for their actions.

The New England states will be brought to their knees by the shortages. However, the Donkeys in charge will blame everything on Bush. When have Donkey voters ever held Donkey politicians responsible for anything?

In Donkey politics, criminality is rewarded. A felony conviction is a resume enhancement. Look at DC’s ex-Mayor Marion Barry. Busted for use and possession of drugs with intent to sell, he was convicted, did his time, and got out of prison to be elected to the DC City Council (where he still is).
