Obama administration officials said Thursday that Russia is firing artillery from its own territory into Ukraine to hit Ukrainian military sites, pointing to escalating Russian involvement in the deadly conflict.
“This clearly is a military escalation,” Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren said, adding there is no question that Russian military—as opposed to Russia-backed separatists—are firing the shots.
State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf first made the accusation during a press briefing earlier Thursday. She also claimed Moscow is boosting its military shipments to pro-Russian separatists. …

Russia has been involved from the beginning. Only a fool thinks the “rebels” are not answering to Moscow while led and directed by Russians soldiers.

Ukraine has stepped up the pace of its military activity since the new government took over and auffered initial reverses.
Their recent success is probably linked to outside mercenaries of their own to fight the Russian backed forces in the field.
I don’t want to compromise zero’s “sources and methods of intelligence collection,” but I saw this on reddit last night. Info is based on post by Russian soldier to his “FB” page, which included location of referenced artillery inside Russia.
Yeah...OK...so there's been, like, this firing...and it's like, coming from Russia...so we think it's Russia 'n stuff. Fer sure.
