Just to add to your post....

....during the Cold War there was ‘diplomacy’ and ‘safeguards’ that are not there today with our run away administration and that of Ukraine's. Nuclear weaponry was considered ‘mutually’ a last resort.

In 2002 A Senate discussion with Defense took place where it was spoken that certain Nuclear weapons could be used “safely” in a conventional war without affecting the nearby citizenry, and that use of these would ‘not require’ Presidential consent.

That session sent shivers down everyone’s spine and.. ‘changed the equation’.. entirely from the cold war parameters and safeguards. We are no longer in that era.

I agree the Russia today is not the Russia of that time as well...and will add....the Russian people are accustomed to hard and difficult times, they will continue to rally with Putin the more the US pushes against their leader, who has already proved his allegiance to their country and it's people....they 'trust' him even if some may at times may question his moves. ( just a side note FYI.....Kiev's directing scads of revenues and rapidly building up their airstipes.)

As usual you are a butt kissing Putinista. Tell this to all those people murdered and imprisoned by your hero Putin, that he has "earned their trust."
