Perry’s office has said the Guard will largely play a role of “deter and refer” – deter border crime by their visible presence along the border and refer illegal acts, including border crossings, to law enforcement. They don’t plan to apprehend illegal immigrants, though, technically, they could, said Texas Adjutant General John Nichols.

Why don’t some other states pitch in. Come on Gov Fallon, that is one tax I wouldn’t mind paying.

will it be a border patrol force or another “Toys for Tots”, babysitting and diaper-changing mission?

What a cop-out. Remember this if La Raza Rick runs...and if we still have a country at that point.

Just as I thought.

Another empty, symbolic PR stunt by Perry.

The man is worthless where Illegal Immigration is concerned, but he sure wants you to think he is doing something, when he isn't.

Good first step, but Perry needs to do more in terms of enforcement.

Lets hope Presidential ambitions aren’t clouding his judgement.

Unless the Guardsmen are fully armed and authorized to defend themselves, then this is a meaningless gesture, similar to Bush's 2006 deployment, which was a complete farce.

I have a buddy who went down as part of that force, and spent half his time poolside at the Tucson Doubletree, and the other half in some Mexican town across the border picking up senoritas bonitas.

Govs Susana Martinez (NM) and Jan Brewer (AZ) ought to follow suit, leaving California as the only remaining unguarded entry point.

That A) puts political and economic pressure on California to do something; and B) highlights through concentration the endgame of the Obama regime through its kinship with the California consensus political worldview.

The Guard needs to treat the invaders like the invaders they are. They should impound them in segregated POW camps and hold them until the war is over. The ones running drug operations, shooting, or armed should be dealt with using live ammo and confiscation or destruction of their equipment just like you would any other hostile combatant.

In 30 days the border would be quiet again.

This is SOP. Back in the day when the NG helped with drug interdiction programs they were not empowered to arrest, only to spot and report. They were armed to protect themselves, but they can be called by an LEO for backup and then take part in arrests. If they embed an LEO with them (like we did) then they can detain and arrest.

Other states that are being violated by Obama’s illegals should do their part, and send in troops to help Perry. New Mexico and Arizona should join the fight. States should stand together against Obama’s assaults.

################

So no real effort to arrest, just be visible...Ok, so when the crtels start shooting from across the river with their .50 cals and other long guns, what is the ROE???

################

The Texas Guard will also assist with humanitarian needs of migrants who may approach them and ask to be taken to a Border Patrol station. The Guard will be equipped with water, most will have lifesaving skills, and they will call immediately for medical help.

################

Ok, here is where it will get bogged down...Handing out water and blankets will be costly in both time and material...And take away from the deterrent effect the visibility will have, at first...

Even though I approve of the action, finally, Perry had enough of the Federal BS, and grew a pair...I give him two thumbs up...

I wonder how long Texas can sustain this effort???

AND...

What will this do to the other border states??? Will they pony up and throw into the ring their Guard units???

That might be a good thing since two out of the three left are republicans...

I’m interested to see what Arizona and New Mexico do at this point...

Also, it would be good for Texans to put the screws to the Congressional delegation to get some funds (I know it goes against the Conservative grain, but there is a good reason to this time) from Uncle Sucky (Feds) to offset the costs of this fiduciary strain on Texas...The other states might want to look into this as well...

It would appear that deterrence might be cheaper in the long run than housing and prolonged “processing” by the Federal schmups putting a strain on the entire country...

But hey, this is just my stupid arse opinion...An idea (many of us have had for years) finally implemented by those who finally have had enough of the BS...

Again another disappointment by my governor.

Why does he not catch these illegal invaders when he sees them, turn them back at the river and say Vamos...

Anyone can be trained to see, call and back away. Does not take the NG to do this. We need them to be locked and loaded sitting on the river turning back this tide. Leave the observing to someone else, civilian group for instance.

More of our tax dollar pissed away....
