Washington DC is part of Maryland. Just combine it and be done with it.

“Washington DC is part of Maryland. Just combine it and be done with it.”

I agree. Arlington, VA was part of the original DC but was returned to Virginia. Let’s return the District to Maryland. The land on which the Federal buildings and monuments sit will remain federal land, under administration of the central government, just like national parks and military bases.

Even better, perhaps it is time to move the seat of the government close to the geographic center of the country (probably somewhere in rural Kansas). We can do it right this time. Build an office building and auditorium for both the House and Senate. Next to it place dormitories where Congressmen and Senators will be required to live when Congress is in session. The Senate and House can share a cafeteria, without any private dining facilities, and the congress critters should be required to eat at the cafeteria while Congress is in session. In the office building allow the Congress critters to have small offices without private restrooms. All Congressional staff should sit in cube farms, in the same way most middle management in today’s corporations are assigned to cubicles. Lobbyists will not be allowed to reside or have physical offices within 100 miles of the seat of government. Congressmen, congressional staff, and lobbyists will be required to post in advance all meetings on an internet log accessible by the public.

Moving the seat of government and making it uncomfortable for congress critters would further the cause of liberty.
