Texas Sen. Ted Cruz praised the relief efforts of Glenn Beck and Mercury One in the border town of McAllen, Texas on Saturday, where the charity Beck founded worked to provide food, clothing, water and toys to the illegal immigrant children who have been streaming into the U.S.
But Cruz also stressed the importance of sending those kids back home.
“Let me say thank you to Mercury One, thank you to Glenn, for leading on this issue, for raising over two million dollars to provide food, to provide medicine, to provide toys to these kids,” Cruz said. “These children, while they’re here, we need to care for them well, we need to demonstrate American values.”
Cruz said it was appropriate for private charities, such as Mercury One, to show “Christian love” to the illegal immigrant children, but he stressed the need to return the children to their home countries as quickly as possible.
“It’s critical, as well, that we need to uphold the rule of law,” Cruz said. “The reason these children are coming is they believe they’ll get amnesty. As long as that promise of amnesty is there, more and more children will come, and more and more children will be brutalized, physically assaulted, sexually assaulted, by violent drug cartels, the coyotes who are bringing them in.”
Cruz cited legislation he has filed to combat President Barack Obama’s policy of deferred deportation for younger immigrants.

I thought beck was worth 250 million. If so, then why does he have people take the time and effort to pry it out of working Americans’ wallets? Oh, that’s right - that’s the way all good liberals do things...with OTHER people’s money.
Send these folks home with full bellies, up-to-date shots and a bit of spending money for when they get home. Fly them home but first capture their biometric identification and create permanent records of it.
By the way, for anyone who doesn’t already know, over 80% of the unaccompanied “children” are males with CLAIMED ages of 14 -18.
I see all of this as a sinister plot to split the republicans with a wedge issue. They seem to do this every election to get the right feuding with each other.
One of our major constituencies is the Christians. They are very concerned about these children. After all they are God's children in dire straits.
Another major group would be the constitutional conservatives. They are concerned about the rule of law and the fact that the administration has purposely instigated this mass migration and want it stopped. We can't afford nor can we care for these children and whatever medical, emotional, educational or other issues they may have.
So here we are again, conflicted.
Another BFD moment from Glenn Beck.
I believe Cruz has made a laudable effort to straddle this issue. I don't believe the administration will let us off that easy.
They are going to hold these "kids" over our head as an election issue. Maybe two elections. They are busy dispersing them all over the country so that it will be difficult to send them home. Undoubtedly they will fail to keep accurate records.
This was not an accidental migration.
Asked and answered. Meanwhile, Mr. Beck lives in a mansion within a gated compound in probably the richest enclave in all of Texas. I don’t begrudge him any of that, but it explains a lot.
Bump.
Asked and answered? Mind telling what the answer is?
Glenn Beck isn't about to dip into his personal savings in any significant amount as long as his audience will pony up the funds for soccer balls and stuffed toys. He's been making $80-100 million per year for some time now, so unless he was investing with Bernie Madoff, he has more than you stated.
I see this as way to import soldiers for an upcoming war. Wonder which side they’ll be on?
Hand them a Happy Meal as they get on the bus back to where they came from.
I beg to differ with you. There is no conflict between Christians and what you call Constitutional Conservatives in general, nor on this issue.
Those people who blindly side with the lawless at the expense of the law abiding do not represent Christians at large nor do they properly execute the Faith.
It was Christians, and Christian sympathizers, who founded this country and wrote the Constitution, after all.
Got it. Thanks.
I agree with what you say, in general. But there are already Christian churches mobilizing to help house and protect the immigrants.
I don't believe that all of the church leaders are as astute as you.
They may be receiving a trojan horse with open arms.
As Beck also has.
Glenn has put out his own money. AND you never deny anyone the opportunity to give.
Another major group would be the constitutional conservatives. They are concerned about the rule of law and the fact that the administration has purposely instigated this mass migration and want it stopped.
Which is the Beck-Cruz position: send them back as soon as the law allows. Take care of them while they're here. I happen to agree with this.
