Sounds like the pro-Russian amateurish rebels thought it was a Ukrainian military cargo plane.

That sounds like the best explanation so far. A warplane wouldn't be flying at that height.

What I heard was Putin’s plane was returning from Brazil and actually crossed the same path like an hour or so after MH17 was shot down. Many are saying Putin was the target. If so then who really shot at the passenger plane? Was it rebels trying to make it seem Ukraine killed Putin, or rebels who really aren’t the brightest thinking it WAS a carrier? Who knows. Will we ever really find out? Doubtful.

An IL-76 would be flying at that altitude and have the same signature

In fact there are reports today the Ukrainian military was in control of the ATC and did have an IL-76 trying to get to blockaded troops, flying on a flight path to the south of where this plane was downed, and hints this airliner even might have been used by the Ukrainians as a decoy to draw attention and possible fire away from their cargo plane - since they lost several this week

The Malay flight for some unexplained reason was flying at the same altitude as the IL-76 (2K feet lower than the Malay pilot had requested) but on a track much farther north than other commercial airliners and over rebel territory

and no, the pilot doesn’t chose his airway and altitude, the ATC (Ukrainians) direct him

May the entire truth be revealed for the sake of justice and for sane decisionmaking by West politicians and the UN

not optimistic

It is too convenient for the US/EU globalists to blame Putin and escalate anti Russian sentiment, even emotional hysteria, among the West
