If I remember my history correctly, the President of the US in 1939, who would have had the last word in turning away a ship full of refugees, was a guy named Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The Great Depression caused a shut down of immigration. The USA adopted a neutrality and isolationist stance towards European affairs. Laws were passed establishing quotas for immigrants, including Eastern Europeans, and certain individuals were banned, such as anarchists, the diseased, the criminal, and those with mental issues. Between half a million and two million Mexicans also were voluntarily or forceably deported during this time in order to protect American jobs. It was partly because of isolationist and self-preservation stances of the time that Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, joined the Cubans and Canadians in turning the ship of Jewish refugees away, not wanting to provoke Hitler into dragging America into the war they did not want a part of.

Except these children aren’t on a ship somewhere sailing around on the ocean - they’re being turned over by their parents to thugs to be escorted across miles of barren countryside to who knows where at $10k per head - at the very least if their parents pooled that money into buying extra protection and maybe even payoffs for the supposed threats in thier own country, the kids would be a lot safer and this country a lot more secure.....
