Well, every loose race card is subject to being lost or discarded. Race cards should always be tightly fastened down lest they cause inadvertent injury.

For some people, not achieving the power or success they want causes them to think it is because of their race/sex/whatever. Sometimes it is.
But often these people have a worldview where the ONLY reason others oppose them is because of such things. They can not see that dissent may be because the other parties do not agree with their ideas.
