Cooler Weather On The Way But Please Don’t Call It A ‘Polar Vortex’

July 11, 2014

Yes, weather forecasts show cooler temperatures on the way for the U.S. Midwest and Northeast next week. But please don’t call it a summertime return of last winter’s dreaded “polar vortex.”

Some meteorologists are getting downright grumpy as news organizations, including some TV weathercasters, rush to recapitalize on the hype by deeming next week’s forecast the return of the vortex.

Okay then. Let's choose a more accurate term. Can you say...

circumpolar vortex?

It's kinda like that one on Saturn!

The weather people must be feeling guilty about their complicity in the global warming hoax so they get touchy about obscure and irrelevant details of terminology. Do your freaking jobs — which involves debunking the global warming hoax — and don’t worry if the polar air coming south this summer has the appropriate public label.

A Vortex is between the stratosphere and the troposphere. It doesn’t come down far enough to affect local weather.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

“The weather people must be feeling guilty..”

I think there are some government climatologists feeling the “heat” about the global warming hoax and are trying to distance themselves from it also. Recent government (I believe it was a NOAA report) re-study of data says we have been cooling.

Meanwhile democrats are pushing harder for their global carbon tax.

No. Basically it’s a semi-permanent low pressure area or contiguous areas that are generally located over the arctic and sub-arctic. The boundary is described by the jet-stream and it weakens seasonally due to differential heating. If you think of the jet stream as a giant standing wave, the effects of the polar vortex are experienced in North America when the wave amplitude increases and the wave trough moves west, bringing cooler air into the eastern and central US while a warm high pressure area persists over the west. Push down here, pop up there. Weather is often the result of dynamics in the upper atmosphere that may not be evident on the ground, the best example being an occluded front.

Thank you for correcting me. I was thinking of something else.

They had to come up with a new phrase so the people who don’t pay attention think that this is something new that never happened before. All that is happening is that the jet stream will be dipping south bringing colder air. But if they say that then they can’t blame it on Gore-Bull Warming.

Ah, no. The term has been in use for over 150 years. If you are interested in the history of modern scientific meteorology I suggest you familiarize yourself with Vilhelm Bjerknes and the Bergen School.

Gee, Al Gore assured us that we would all be cooking with HOTTER temperatures. Watch the sophistry that these colder than normal temperatures are the result of man caused climate change and somehow linked to rising CO2 levels that are causing global warming.

Meanwhile democrats are pushing harder for their global carbon tax.

Because it's never been about facts or about truth, only about grasping power.

Ok, so they are resurrecting an old term and treating it like is is a scary new phenomenon. My point still stands.

You don’t have a point. The fact is that specific terms and phrases mean something to those who have taken the time to educate themselves, and you haven’t. Stop sharing your ignorance.
