I personally like Perry, he has a great record in Texas, — I think he would make a great president, but I am concerned of his ability to mount a successful campaign and avoid destructive gaffes which would result in losing the election.

That's what happened to my first choice, Bachmann, in 2012. I think we'll need to run a woman in 2016, whether Hillary gets the nod or not.
That said, I could support Perry.

I used to think like that, but after watching the “Bridgegate scandal” successfully smear Chris Christie for the better part of a year I am sure that “destructive gaffes” would be manufactured if necessary.
