Four representatives of the NAACP and the U.S. Department of Justice met with Norfolk Mayor Sue Fuchtman Thursday to talk about a controversial float in the Fourth of July parade.
The meeting included the mayor, city administrator Shane Weidner and members of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, which organized the parade.
The Justice Department official is a member of the Community Relations Service team that handles discrimination disputes.
The float in question depicted a distraught looking mannequin in overalls in front of an outhouse with the words Obama Presidential Library on the side.
"The state area NAACP has received numerous concerns and inquiries about this issue," Iowa-Nebraska NAACP President Betty C. Andrews said in a news release.
Weidner said the meeting was very positive and, for him, more of a listening session.

Indeed—Exactly what ordinance, statute, or law did the guy who made the float violate?
Thou shall not mock Dear Leader.
But the Hindenburg going up in flames would be more accurate but not very safe for a parade.
There are GOUTS of corruption and criminals invading,
and the DO”J” comes here??
The DOJ official was there to rape the 1st Amendment on behalf of the Mahdi. The NAACP was there to egg him on.
Bush Chimp was gleefully noted.
can you imagine if a obama chimp poster or float was public? i think they would jail you, same cell as the benghazi video guy, who i believe is also still locked up.

‘George W Bush Sewage Plant’ Proposed In San Francisco
None, of course. In fact the character on the float looks nothing like Obama, and the maker says it was supposed to be himself. The figure is wearing bib overalls which is workingmans apparel and thus would eliminate any possibility of it representing Obama.
Obama’s comandment: I am the law. Thou shall not mock me.
Free speech?
Free expression?
I’m glad we voted those things out.
Those are antiquated notions thought up by evil bigoted white slave owners.
It’s time we embrace better ways of thinking. :)
Now go pay your taxes, there are a bunch of people coming our over border illegally who need the money.
Why is Justice Dept in on a parade float but not in on defending the borders, defending federal law, investigating fast and furious, investigating/prosecuting IRS, etc?
What maroons.
Why the hell are DOJ and NAACP coordinating in this?
I vividly recall the endless mocking of Ronald Reagan (always portrayed as a bumbling fool) and W. Bush, endlessly compared to a chimp.
Even if I disagreed with these portrayals I never would have imagined that any branch of our government would consider responding to them. If Bush had sent a “Justice Official” to visit the guy who created that poster comparing chimp facial expressions to W’s the public outrage would have been massive.
The lesson we are told to learn is “No black man in a position of authority is ever to be mocked.” That’s racism!
The same NAACP which did nothing as one of its high ranking members demonized black Repubs??!!
“Obamas comandment: I am the law. Thou shall not mock me.”
The kid glove treatment of Obama has ensured that there will never be an honest discussion on race in this country; the preferential treatment is permanent (practically enshrined in law).
Blacks will never catch up as long as nobody is allowed to expect anything of them. Millions of foreigners are crossing our southern border, and within a few years 99% of them will have passed blacks on the economic ladder.
Obama/Holder are delivering Pyhrric victories to their people, while they die in urban violence and abortuaries.
Well, obviously James Madison never intended the First Amendment to be stretched to include making fun of the President in office.
