Got to admit, that rear facing gunner was seriously retro of them to think of........
Still cool, but the gunner wound not get to see all the good stuff happening up front!

Interesting article! I wasn’t familiar with this plane before.

The Russians could have made good use of this aircraft in Afghanistan.

It DOES remind me of a jet-driven Sturmovik.

Yet an obscure Russian close air support aircraft that lost a competition to the now notorious Sukhoi Su-25 may take the trophy for the must gorgeously ugly combat jet of all time. A couple of contenders...
Of course airplanes always look uglier parked on the ground.

It certainly does. It looks like it would be tough to fly but take a beating.

I spoke too soon. That’s not an ME-109.

JU-87 Stuka and P47 Thunderbolt. Both great ground support planes and the P47 was also a fine high altitude fighter. But compared to planes like the P51 Mustang and Focke-Wulf 190 they were ugly as sin.

I don’t think either of those is a combat “JET” though.
Russian aircraft always have an indefinable “something” that makes them seem odd somehow. Something in the design language is just “off”.
To: Little Pig
You’re right, I missed the “jet” part.

I got the P-47 right. LOL One of Dad’s best friends was a P-47 Thunderbolt pilot.
