Yep, it’s racist to say Chinaman.
It’s also racist to say Oriental.
The politically correct term is Asian.
I found that out about Oriental a few years ago.
The problem is “Asian” isn’t specific enough. It’d include Indians.
Oriental was a perfectly fine word for... those from the Orient.
It’s interesting the ‘moving target’ of the PC police. Negro was preferred by black folks. Then black. Then African-American. I’m sure A-A will be offensive to blacks in about 20 years.
I’ve heard Orientals use the word Oriental.
That goes to show you that some people just hear/read/interpret what they want to hear/read/interpret.
I wonder if "dam" is allowed, referring to the female horse or a water barrier....:o)
I think Chinaman is a derogative term that can be considered racist. I do think that’s fair enough.
Oriental was ginned up as a racist term a few decades ago by the PC brigade, but it isn’t racist or derogatory and shouldn’t be seen as such.
Oriental is to my mind a practical descriptive term that is more specific to a subset of Asians in contrast to the very broad Asian alone.
THe “politically correct term is “ MASTER!
The politically correct term is Asian.

Assuming you weren’t being sarcastic....
Like saying someone is Caucasian, the term Asian doe not identify the country referred to.
He could have pissed them off by using the term “Mongoloid” to use the old classification.
