Liberal Fox News co-host Bob Beckel’s use of the word “Chinamen” when discussing the “national security” threat China poses to the United States apparently caused such a stir at the Huffington Post that an “office-wide gasp” occurred.
Huffington Post senior political reporter Amanda Terkel and intern David McCabe both took to Twitter to talk about the “Chinamen” debacle.

I think Chinaman is a derogative term that can be considered racist. I do think that’s fair enough.
Oriental was ginned up as a racist term a few decades ago by the PC brigade, but it isn’t racist or derogatory and shouldn’t be seen as such.
Oriental is to my mind a practical descriptive term that is more specific to a subset of Asians in contrast to the very broad Asian alone.

Leftists claim it is racist to say Chinamen. But they never say it’s racist to say Englishman or Frenchman. The term Asian tells you nothing. Arabs are Asians as are Israelis, Afghans, Indians and many others. The term Orientals distinguishes Orientals from other Asians.

I was watching it, and the way he said it, practically foaming at the mouth, and then doing the arm thing, it was not a neutral descriptive term.
I gasped, too, and said aloud, “Wow, you’ve stepped it in it now.”
