The senate behaved in Avery protective mode. They wanted to preserve their own power...that was both parties. Many in the senate then are still there. With Reid as majority leader an impeachment trial will never occur.

Secret evidence was shown to the lower house that shocked and persuaded enough representatives to impeach the dirty rotten bastard.
The unspeakably detestable demonrat senators simply blocked that, and much other evidence, from being presented to the senators before they voted not to remove from office.
The trial in the senate was worse than a farce. Sort of a combination of a farce and a slasher flick.
If that secret evidence had been made public, I am told, it could have swayed public opinion just as it did the House of Representatives.
