Closing that loophole that prevents these illegal immigrants from being deported? The media has been claiming that they can’t be deported because of this law signed by Bush - but according to this blogger, it EXPIRED in 2011.
From the article:
While it might be convenient for Democrats to claim George Bush had something to do with the influx because of his signature on the December 2008 reauthorization bill William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008, the fact is that reauthorization expired in 2011 (link - https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/110/hr7311/text).
HR7311 To authorize appropriations for fiscal years 2008 through 2011 for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, to enhance measures to combat trafficking in persons, and for other purposes. (link)
It should also be noted the Bush signed reauthorization bill was constructed on 12/9/08 by Democrats (who controlled both houses), and passed on 12/10/08 a month after candidate Barack Obama won the presidential election. George Bush was a lame duck.
Thanks for the heads-up.
Well, Obama himself said that the immigration law is “so broken than nobody knows what it is.”
He said that in the Rose Garden and I heard it with my very own ears.
According to one of the other threads today, what appeared to be a routine re-authorization of an earlier law in 2008 included a provision authored by Joe Biden which created the loophole for the non-Mexican Hispanic children.
