(WXYZ) - WXYZ-TV Chief Meteorologist Dave Rexroth was seriously injured in a fireworks accident while vacationing with his family in Iowa City, Iowa. The accident, which happened on Friday night, caused Dave to lose sight in his left eye.
He is currently hospitalized in Iowa City and is scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday. That will begin the process of Dave receiving a prosthetic eye. He expects to fully recover by September.
Dave Rexroth is a great meteorologist for WXYZ and he certainly deserves our prayers

It is insane the amount of trust we place in firework MADE IN CHINA !.
"Huh, I could have sworn I hit that bottle rocket THAT time..."
Lit off a bunch for my grandkids. It was a real battle keeping them back a safe distance.
I was thankfully not hurt too bad this fourth as my husband decided to place the fireworks on a bucket that was not level. The thing fell over and landed under the seat of one of my 4 year old kids. By the time I looked down the thing started going off burning part my my leg, pants and shirt then flow over my shoulder.
Fireworks are inherently dangerous.
Some years ago two explosions only a few years apart at the same fireworks factory near me killed something like 11 people. Most of them were from the same family. It was near Reading Michigan back in the early 90s I believe.
I took the firecrackers away from my son this year. At 15 we figured he was smart enough not to need adult supervision, then we go outside and find him and all his friends running around stuffing them into marshmallows and having a splatter war chucking them at each other.
He also hasn’t told you that you are a grandpa now either.
just kidding
Note - watch the folks reactions at the edge of the lake.
Yeah, you and I never did stupid stuff at 15 /s
It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye...
My fireworks show went off just fine.
I figure if the Chinese have been making them for thousands of years, they should be the best in the world.
Don’t even think of wanting to ban them.
It’s all in how you light them off. A firm flat spot, 3 or 4 pieces of 4X8 plywood between the fireworks and the crowd and a 5+ degree angle to fire them off away from the crowd.
boooo! youtube yanked the video or something.
Not long into the event, a rocket went into the huge evergreen tree in his front yard and started it on fire........
That was it, I swore off all pyrotechnics......
Oh, I just remembered, about 4 years ago some punks tried to blow up my custom made wood mailbox by stuffing an explosive in it. Fortnately, all it did was blow off the front door which I had to rebuild.......
Talked to a local fire dept paramedic over the weekend.
He said “man this weekend is the ultimate job security, there’s drunks shooting off fireworks all over town.”
Chicks dig scars, baybee...
(Seriously, though - ouch!)
You can still see it... I just did a youtube search, and found multiple copies, and at least two others work.
It's basically a normal fireworks show which goes awry, the computer controller lights off everything in 30 seconds instead of the planned half-hour or whatever. Search for "7000 fireworks".
