Unease in G.O.P. Over Mississippi Tea Party Anger

WASHINGTON — The stormy aftermath of Mississippi’s Republican Senate runoff has sent Tea Party conservatives around the country to the ramparts, raising the prospect of a prolonged battle that holds the potential to depress conservative turnout in November in Mississippi — and possibly beyond.

The campaign of State Senator Chris McDaniel has formally filed a legal notice that it intends to contest the results of the June 24 runoff against Senator Thad Cochran, a six-term incumbent. At least two lawsuits from McDaniel allies are in the works, one demanding the release of election records, the other accusing Mississippi authorities of culpability in the suicide of a Mississippi Tea Party leader on June 27.

The turmoil has given Mr. Cochran’s Democratic challenger, former Representative Travis Childers, an opening to exploit the divide in what is otherwise seen as a race in which he trails badly. “Senator Cochran does not have the confidence of his state, let alone his own party,” Mr. Childers said.

Perhaps more worrisome to Washington Republicans is that if conservative outrage in Mississippi spreads, some Tea Party voters in other states where the Republican establishment’s candidate has prevailed could stay home in November. That could bolster Democrats like Kay Hagan in North Carolina, Mark Pryor in Arkansas, Mark Begich in Alaska or Michelle Nunn in Georgia.

“Oh, we are watching. We are furious. The G.O.P. wants us to sit down, shut up and vote for their RINO,” Jane Bilello, chairwoman of the Asheville Tea Party in North Carolina, said, using the acronym for Republican in Name Only. “We are putting our foot down, and until the Republicans learn this lesson, they’re going to continue to lose elections.”

I honestly don’t think they care if they win in November. You have Mitch, Linsey, et al who are basically Democrats then you have the leeches, Rove, Barbour, et al who will keep siphoning off funds no matter who’s in charge.

The Senators and House members who lose their jobs, they’re the ones who need to wake up. Like the media with Obama, they overestimate their importance to their masters.

The article didn’t mention the votes bought at $15 each or the radio ads and flyers directed into the black community that accused Senator McDaniel and his supporters as being racist, klansmen and wanting to return to Jim Crow days. It also didn’t mention that this was a “reach out to democrats” strategy. I thought a reach out to democrats strategy would tout Conservatism, smaller government, jobs, etc.

Doesn’t matter a damn if GOP retakes the Senate Obam won’t be impeached simply because neither the Democrats or the GOP give a shit about right or wrong only what is good for themselves & the Constitution is a scrap of paper nothing more. I come to conclusion from watching C-span for more than 30 years.

The GOP has been known as the Stupid Party for decades. Doing the stupid thing is in its DNA.

The GOPe is stupid in the same sense as Obama Administration is stupid. Both only look stupid to us because they have different goals than we do. Once you recognize that fact, they don't seem stupid at all, in fact they are very clever.

Thad sucks but he isn’t our enemy. Obama is.

What? We can't have more than one enemy?

we will have an easier time gathering the irrefutable truth.

The House is responsible for gathering the truth and they should, regardless of what the Senate does or does not do.

I read yesterday Heritage is getting ready to start tracking cloture votes and include it as part of conservative ratings. That’s good news.

Long overdue, we got ACA this way.

The GOP prefers a Democrat winning over a Conservative.

You have made the author's point here.

Usually the NY Slimes is outright lying, but they are correct that conservatives, Tea Parties, etc., are sick and fed up with Country Club RINO types; especially after the BS and race baiting that went on in MS. This discontent could spread to places like NC, where it is imperative that that democrap senator lose.

If Republicans take the senate, we can and likely will impeach Obama. They haven’t spent all this time building a case for impeachment for no reason. We need the senate though. Just sayin’.

Liberals in the GOP will not impeach liberals in the Democratic Party.

No sweat...I've got broad shoulders! lol

My Hispanic wife and our 3 kids make it a habit to call me "racist" when I don't succumb to their wishes. I returned fire at my daughter yesterday, she had a Washington Redskins sticker on the floor of her car.

She's a Cowboys fan...after church on Sunday, we usually eat at a nearby Tex-Mex restaurant. We give my 3 YO grandson a few quarters for the vending machines. Finally got a Cowboys helmet sticker yesterday.

One other point/question: has McConnell stepped back his comments regarding "crushing the Tea Party"?

You really think McCain would do anything to harm his “friends across the aisle?”

“It’s always heads I win, tails you lose with the GOP Establishment.”

I firmly believe that the “Haley Barbour Wing” of the GOP would rather loose elections to the RATS than have “non-members” of their little clique win. It is more important to them to retain their ill-gotten power than to see the country take advantage of new people in public office. And it’s not so much about ideology than it is about payoffs and money from their “monied masters” in the business world ( including the US Chamber of Communists).

Are you serious? You really believe a Republicrat controlled senate will impeach obama? You have bought the GOPE pitch hook line and sinker. They will do nothing. They control the House and have done nothing. Through senate procedural antics they could have made Reids life miserable in the senate and have done nothing.

Boehner’s lawsuit is a precursor to impeachment. They are setting the stage. The president is vulnerable right now. Look at his poll numbers. All they need is the Senate because nothing happens with Harry Reid in control of the Senate. You need the clue I think.

It would be hard for anyone to defend him when the irrefutable truth proves him guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors.

The tell us their goal is to elect Republicans. Tell us what their true goals are, as attacking 80% of your voters is not the way to elect the GOP.

"The important thing to remember is that there is a finite number of RINOs in the leadership."

I wish that were true. The RINOs corrupt the newly elected officials if they can. Look at Renee Elmers, supposed Tea Party adherent, turns into full Open Borders RINO, complete with the insults.

Marco Rubio knocks out RINO, now Democrat Charlie Crist with Tea Party support. He dumps the Tea Party with insults as soon as he enters office by not joining the Tea Party caucus. Then he hunkers down with the RINOs before coming out completely Open Borders as not only a supporter of Comprehensive Immigration Reform, but as a full member of the Gand of Eight. That's not working out for him so well, so he's desperately back paddling out of the Open Borders mess.
