So is Clint Dempsey along with many soccer superstars such as Neymar, Kaka (who will soon be playing in the MLS). There are a lot of Christian soccer players. That's why I laugh at all the soccer haters who reflexively think that soccer's rise in popularity is somehow due to mass immigration in the US. Actually, it's a pretty conservative-based sport.

There are a lot of Christian soccer players.Who would ever think otherwise, given the sport's popularity in latin America alone?

Welcome to the age of “ad hominem” attacks. “If you like soccer, you must be a collectivist, girlie-man.” “Vote for disrespecting Reagan and for honoring Tim Howard.”
All of which is just bloviating to the herd. What began this train of illogical attacks: “If you don’t like Obamacare, you must be racist.”

No, it’s not a conservative sport
..the culture, and by that, the fans, the little leagues, etc, is a soccer mom liberal culture by and large. It’s great to see that Dempsey and Howard are Christians, but it’s a liberal sport over all.
Besides, the offsides rule is a socialist rule in a lot of ways.

I’ve watched almost all the games and have noticed the number of players, who cross themselves coming into the game as a substitution and after scoring a goal. Liberals probably believe all this Christ stuff is American as burning crosses and lynchings.
