The cost in Detroit is extremely high ($75 per month on average) but there are reasons for it. Heavy unionization, mismanagement, and thousands of unpaid bills make up the bulk of that cost.

John Conyers naturally wants to make things worse. He sent a letter to Obama demanding that he write a check not only to pay the debt but for an extra hundred million so the people can continue not paying their bills.

My bill is 75 a month.
Not only does that include water service it ALSO includes stormwater collection as well, that would be the curb inlet at the end of your driveway sucking up all the stormwater so it doesn’t flood the road. This is typical since the city handles all water management.
But even at 75 a month that’s still only 2.5 dollars a day for service. Our utilities dept charges 10$ the first day past due, 50 everyday after that AND your water is shut off right away,AND a charge of 50$ on top of the regular bill is assessed for the next THREE MONTHS,added to the regular bill.
I pay my water bill 2 weeks early every month.

Freeper's you need to listen to CrippleCreek on this. We are in the "Detwaa" burbs, but this is a multilayered problem.

* The Regions water source is Detroit and their system.
* He is right, mismanagement etc, although their is some evidence they are trying to clean up their act.
* As an Asset, and depending upon how or if you believe their numbers, it maybe a cash generator at some point, but as an Asset it is part of the sticky Detroit Bankruptcy. What to do with it, sell it? keep it? etc etc.
* The potential for the burbs to get hit with huge rate increases are their and CC might know some Municipalities maybe already looking towards getting off Detroit's water and finding their own solution.

“The cost in Detroit is extremely high ($75 per month on average)...”

Thank you - on the other thread I was wondering about that. And it sounds like the people aren’t on a meter - so they can’t ration their water to reduce their bills.

So at what price is it still okay for the government/public utility to charge whatever it wants for water? And if you don’t pay it they turn off your water and take your children? Is it $75 a month? $150 a month? $1000 a month?
