Bob Dole made us all go to the Nixon Library instead of the Reagan Library, for a televised visit.
However, in return, Bob Dole got our liberal RINO Governor, Bill Graves, to quit taking shots at us in the press.
And in return, we got to play a very moving video about Reagan at the convention.
At least two national TV networks zoomed in on me, in the front row of the Convention, crying my eyes out.
Ok, we have something in common.
Dole coulda been a contenda. Mike Murphy did a helluva campaign video for him in 1987 or so which was one of the most outstanding I have ever seen. I believe it was shown only at the 1987 Young Republican National Convention in Seattle. Dole against rolling fields of golden wheat beneath a dark tornado-alley sky with moving biographical stuff and topped by a single tear rolling down Dole’s cheek as he talked about giving welfare checks as county attorney to the proud farmers whose children had been his friends before WW II. Great stuff. It must have been what he had once been before running for VPOTUS under Ford and selling out generally. I don’t like Mike Murphy as a person or as a political consultant since he always goes where the big money is but his videos are as good as it gets when he is inspired. In 1987 at least, Murphy was inspired by Dole.
