The Iowa GOP central committee voted Saturday to fire the state party chairman and replace him with a fixture of the establishment. Danny Carroll, removed on a 14-2 no confidence vote, will be replaced by Jeff Kaufmann, formerly the Speaker Pro Tem of the state House.
The bloodless coup was widely expected after forces loyal to Gov. Terry Branstad officially seized control of the partys governing body from close allies of Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) at a state convention earlier this month. The former chairman, A.J. Spiker, stepped down this spring and became a senior adviser to RAND PAC. Carroll is a former lobbyist for the evangelical Family Leader and supported Branstads primary challenger in 2010. Chad Olsen, who stepped down as the partys executive director in May 2012 after Pauls forces took control, will get his old job back. Cody Hoefert, from conservative northwest Iowa, replaces the co-chair, who resigned before the meeting.

We do not elect chairmen by convention delegates here in Iowa.
Carroll was elected by the former SCC to stick it to the new one, because he’s very controversial and a borderline theocrat. He should have never taken this position, and the old SCC should have never held the vote.
Iowa is a little different than most state GOP’s. Rather than being too Establishment, we have a tendency to go off the cliff at the other extreme. For example, and candidate recruited by the Ron Paul crowd suddenly, in the middle of her campaign, dropped out and declared herself a U.S. Senator in the real, constitutional United States that existed before it was ‘corporatized’ in the late 1800’s. Her and several others were going to form this new nation, separate but equal I guess, and be it’s self-appointed leaders.
True story. Google ‘Randi Shannon Iowa Senate’
Thanks very much for that back story. Rita
IIRC, you ARE the Establishment. You think of the wimpy National Right to Life Committee (raking in the dough from the gullible while accomplishing zero, zip, nada, and essentially empowering the GOP-E to TALK a good game just like NRLC while accomplishing exactly nothing. You worry about feeling good rather than doing good. Haley Boss Hogg Barbour will be happy to whisper soothingly in your ear ao long as you don't upset HIS interests in taking all that Wall Street and K Street $$$$.
Ronaldus Maximus kept the RINO slime at bay. They hated him with a purple passion. They did everything but arrange mass suicide to preserve a horse's ass and embarrassment like Gerald Feckless Ford. As soon as Reagan was retired, they cheered on Bush the Elder, elected as Reagan's successor and destroyed as Reagan's betrayer.
Not that Dole was much other than the "tax collector for the welfare state" just as Jack Kemp tagged him, but why choose him as an example of a liberal Kansas excuse for a Republican when you had a perfectly positioned Nancy Landon Kassebaum Baker (Mrs. Howard Baker, as you may recall).
To the extent that the GOP was infested with such trash as Lowell P. Weicker, Jr., Bob (and later Giddy) Dole, Kassebaum, Richard Lugar, Charles Mac Mathias, John Sherman Cooper, Howard Baker, and so many, many more, that was due to the lavish investments made for generations by Muffie's daddy and granddaddy and great granddaddy, etc., to guarantee an effective snobocracy posing as an hereditary political party, protecting hereditary class interests above all but also competing with the Demonrat left on social and, often, foreign policy issues. Their distinguishing characteristic is the habit of ignoring, attacking and keeping their jackboots on the necks of the peasants. Reagan was just too talented to fail in 1980 and 1984 and only barely lost to the incumbent imbecile and whore Gerald Ford in 1976.
Now, Mr. Kansas Activist (but for whom or for what like John Kerry in Vietnam), you also have the nerve to flub even Kansas political history in your zeal to attack Norm Lenhart. Your Kansas pro-abort feminazi US Senator Nancy Landon Kassebaum married HOWARD BAKER not James Baker. Had it been James Baker, the fountain of all corrupt money of that era into Gerald Ford's GOP and his warding off Reagan by a handful of votes at the 1976 convention, Nancy would be a LOT richer today. If Bob Dole used to talk to you, why were you unaware of this basic fact?
Reagan never had a majority of the House as Republicans but, after no less than Tip O'Neill showed the Demonrat caucus their own early polls on Reagan as POTUS, he had a majority of Congress.
Mitchie McConnell is far more of a whore than Bob Dole ever dreamed of being. McConnell might better be truthful in advertising if he changed his first name to Xaviera and his middle name to Hollander and carried a portable red light, a portable mattress and a sack of quarters (to make change) wherever he goes.
Likewise, the Weeper of the House John (Hic) "Coppertone" Boehner, the soon to be departed Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy, and the rest of their spineless House and Senate "Leadership" ilk in DC. They make such spineless schlubs as Bob Michel, Gerald Ford, Trent Lott, and the like look positively heroic, at least by comparison. Boehner is just WORRIED that the lame stream media might (sniffle) actually (boo hoo) think (he's jealous) of just, well, CRITICIZING him. We just cannot have that. It makes him look just ineffective (WAAAAH) when he dons his kneepads: one for Wall Street and one for K Street.
Today's "GOP""leadership" would LOVE to get away with gun grabbing, baby-killing, gay everything, so long as there are yet MORE upper class tax cuts (the only issue they REALLY care about). They can't get away with it without a second round of the French Revolution complete with guillotines. Unfortunately the guillotine was created to be a relatively quick and painless method of execution, but, hey, what the heck! I can favor "supply side" as much as the next guy but it is not, never has been and never will be my reason for living.
I would not vote for Ron Paul if he were the only candidate on the ballot. I determined to keep an open mind on Rand Paul. I did, BUTTTTTT but his recent compulsion to support just about every Demonrat priority: Disarmament, congrats to Thad Cockroach, gay everything. amnesty (whether he admits it or not), Mitchie McConnell's primary effort, neo-isolationism (always a Paul family obsession even if it makes sense until we recover economically and elect an actual pro-American POTUS which includes neither Rand nor Obozo nor the Arkansas Medusa). There is plenty more but that will suffice for now.
In the GOP political context "realism" is the tried and true path to issue surrender. We are partisans not compromising spineless Golums. Face facts, you do not fight the "Establishment." If you want to reward their 150 years of issue treason and special interest boodling by supporting them whenever they buy a primary, then face it: You either ARE the Establishment or you aspire to be their subject. As Someone once said: You are either with us or against us and, if you are lukewarm, I will vomit you out of My Mouth.
I want the GOP (and pro-lifers and pro-gun folks and every other form of conservative learn to make the Establishment walk the plank and stuff their infernal $$$$ where the sun shineth not and learn to talk to, persuade and recruit a much broader coalition that includes blacks, Hispanics, Asians and every honest American willing to work for a living, keep his or her nose clean and mutually pledge their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor (Gee, where did THAT come from?).
We do NOT need to spin our wheels forever in the vain hope of winning a State Central seat here, a Town Committee there with the unspoken assurance that we will support winning $$$$ whores and. if we beat them, they can piss on us as usual. That's all over with now.
If you are 55, you were about 17 when I was a Reagan State Chairman against that despicable disgrace Gerald Ford in 1976. Ford lost to Jimmuh Peanut (McConnell to Grimes? Cockroach to Travis Childers?) and in 1980 and 1984 Ronaldus Maximus won by record margins as the Ruling Class "GOP" and Demonrats gargled sulfuric acid for 8 years. We got our job done in electing Reagan. Did you vote for pro-abort gun-grabber ancestor of Obozocare Mitt Romney? I didn't. I wish I did not vote for McCain, Dole or Bush the Elder the second time around and Nixon in 1968.
REMEMBER MISSISSIPPI!!!! whether you want to or not because actual conservatives will. Rule or ruin! Starting right now! You are either with us or against us. There is no Middle Ground any more.
You actually VOTED FOR ROMNEY and think he was better than Obozo. REALLY????
Gun grabber, militant pro-abort like his daddy and mommy before him (because his cousin, a genuine Muffie, aborted a child when she was a college freshman in about 1962 and then bled to death due to a botched abortion). Grasp this, Mr. alleged pro-lifer: Mitt excuses himself and his mommy and his daddy for supporting the abortion Holocaust of 60 million dismembered babies because his cousin died. Prefer though I certainly do that his cousin did not die, her death does not justify the baby-killing spasms of the GOP ruling class or her family's enthusiasm for the deaths of innocent babies.
Shall we talk "gay" everything but particularly that contradiction in terms: "Gay""marriage." When the Taxachusetts Supreme Court handed down a decision that decided as a matter of intellectual speculation that Taxachusetts was denying "equal protection of the laws" in outlawing a contradiction in terms but ordered NO ONE to DO ANYTHING about it, Mittens could not wait to suck yup to the fudgepackers by threatening any town clerk refusing "marriage" permits to "same sex couples" (why not threesomes, space aliens, prisoners in the state hoosegow, ummm, animal "lovers," or whatever?
Romneycare: 'Nuff said.
Tell us about Mittens' distinguished military record. Oh, that's right! Maybe he showed up for a Memorial Day Parade but probably not. Why should Mittens be any different from other generations of Romney.
I met a lot of Mormons in College Republicans, Young Republicans and Young Americans for Freedom. They were, without exception, upstanding, moral exemplars and solid conservatives. (I know that some Mormons like the Udalls and Frank Church and Jon Huntsman disgrace their Church but, like Mittens, an actual bishop, they just harm the reputation of Mormons for personal rectitude. But, hey, he's your guy, not mine!
Mitt Romney is not hell bent for leather to destroy the USA? Really? PROVE IT! How gullible do you imagine conservatives to be? We are not.
Is there ANY conservative cause whatsoever that Mittens committed to that did not involve his lust for $$$$ or power? Let me save you the trouble: NO!
Mitt essentially INVENTED Obozocare first in Taxachusetts and could not debate it. He never served and knew nothing military. That took Benghazi off the table. Obozo is not a conservative Republican and therefore, Mittens did not lift a finger to defeat Obozo.
It is NOT a "flawed system." Rather, the fix is in. Conservatives are not playing any more by Wall Street/K Street rules. We may have to feel our way as we destroy your beloved "GOP" but we will get there.
MISSISSIPPI! MISSISSIPPI! MISSISSIPPI!
Wow! 58 may never be back. And we’re not in Kansas any more.
Thanks for the rock’em sock’em. It’s time! We have all suffered fools long enough, some with credentials on their head and party proud, but bearing no resistance in sight.
Dead weight. Destination,... the curb.
Remember Mississippi
Thx, so, Rita
Nice smackdown Elk. Very nice. Hard to dispute a guy that was there.
But I’m sure someone will try.
If you claim otherwise you are NOT an Conservative and you can not claim to even be a patriot. You are absurd.
The National Right to Life Committee has had problems with Romney in the past but endorsed Romney over “Kill the baby if born alive” Obama.
You spout hate, not strategy. There is a difference.
However you are again spouting hate and anger and not strategy.
Reagan fought Ford, then Reagan lost to Ford, then Ford lost to Carter.
However, when Reagan got the nomination, the next time around, MILLIONS of Ford loyalists voted for Reagan, BECAUSE THEY SAW THAT REAGAN WAS A CLASS ACT!
(Your behavior here says otherwise about you)
Flaming magnesium level stupidity.
By the way, you hate filled ass full of insults and put downs:
I have done more for the prolife cause than anyone on this thread. Read my profile and get back to me you pompous ass!
Do you have the maturity to disagree with someone with out trying to destroy that person or without the need to tear that person down anyway you can think of?
You owe me an apology.
Every major Conservative group in the country agrees with ME and does not agree with YOU!
Your pride is involved here, obviously.
And you are making stupid decisions based on pride, not strategy.
Reagan was indeed a very wise politician. I am confident that Gerald Ford Voted for Reagan 2 times in his life.
Why is that?
Every major conservative group in the country headed by GOP handmaidens agrees with you. Which is why we see on website after forum, people changing party affiliations.
This isn’t pride. And trying to Alynski me is meaningless. The facts are what they are and you avoided dealing with a lot of them with both myself and Elk.
On the other hand you played the offended card lust like a pro. Which speaks for itself. Claiming that history is not what it is speaks for itself. Avoiding all the points I made except the solitary one you got me on speaks for itself. Claiming to be a champion of the unborn while promoting a guy that legislated pro Abortion policies and paid his own cash to the groups you fought speaks for itself.
You should reread Reagan’s 75 speech sometime. You might learn something. His Diaries would be another plus. Have you? I have. And I don’t need to pretend he said, did and believed anything but what he wrote, said and did.
If anyone here is owed an Apology it’d God for helping support the guy treating the pearly Gates like a return desk at Walmart, Reagan for butchering his history and Elk for that fiasco you posted above.
You need to read his post closer. you missed a huge detail.
So
You will NEVER be able to be at peace with the Republican Party.
You want a “pure” Party.
You lack a leader.
You lack a strategy.
You lack anyone with the class and ability and wisdom and leadership skills to do anything but SPLIT the conservative vote.
You make a habit out “kicking people out” and you pretty much DEMAND that the “un-pure” NOT vote for “YOUR” candidate.
In other words, I have a few names for your “new Party”
The FAILURE PARTY
The REVENGE Party
The SPOILER Party
The Sour Grapes Party
At least be honest. You don’t want to win, you just want to make sure that the Republicans don’t win.
For the record, what actually happened yesterday, is that for all practical purposes, RPI, as any real expression of rank and file conservatives, or the conservative platform, went out of business. Oh, they’ll keep the nameplate on the door, but everything behind that is now a wholly-owned and operated subsidiary of the Washington and Iowa GOP “moderate” Establishment. Basically, Branstad Reynolds, and the RNC, gained some nice office space, and a few more fundraising opportunities to feed their liberal machine going into the next presidential cycle.
Well, what passes for leadership these days, at our level are people looking for the social status, being introduced at events and getting up to speak the same ole BS, and then inactions or sheepish activity level whole on the clock...
Sure, there are a few that actually do something, but even that, there is more to be done...
They are not there to make mud patties, or fiddle fart around...That type of operation is unacceptable to constituencies that are up to speed on what is going on...And if that is the case, usually the representative is doing what they are “expecting” them to do...And that is what I call realistic expectations, not just buzz wording their way through an election cycle or campaign to be re-elected...
the party leadership you talk about may at some time be conservative (more??? I’ll have to disagree with you on that), they are more into “what’s in it for me?” mentality...Self-sustaining “informed, just enough, constituencies”...With community leader support structure to quell those how dare to question the “chain of commands” record, etc etc etc...
And I’ve seen it first hand, not just here in Texas, but in other states, its almost like a template has been distributed and the variables plugged in when and where the demographics and other factors play into the equation...
My observations come directly from actually being involved in the political apparatus for over 20 years...I’m also an elected official...My committee work, working groups and support for other elected officials has brought me into an area within the circle that not a lot of people get to see...There are quite a few more that have participated on this website for a very long time...
One lesson I learned years ago...Never take what you see and hear (for that matter), at face value...Even if it comes from someone you trust...
I consider myself part of a group (idealist) that would call themselves “guarded optimists”...
Polly wanna cracker!
*squawk*
Kansas, Romney would have been a WORSE president than Obama because he would have advanced the same amoral evil-enabling agenda using REPUBLICANS to do it. He would have been a WORSE president than Obama because when Romney advanced abortion and the gay agenda instead of Obama, the good righteous Christian Republicans who voted for Romney would HAVE to be accountable for what they voted for.
As it is, because of folks like me and Black Elk and others who made it so Romney LOST, those righteous Christians who voted FOR all the evil Romney represents, are off the hook.
VOTING FOR EVIL BEGETS EVIL.
Whether you intend it to or not. Romney would have been a worse president than Obama because RIGHTEOUS GOD-FEARING CHRISTIANS would have been responsible for directly, willingly nourishing evil.
Obama might very well get us all killed.
A nuclear bomb in the hands of terrorists will kill all of us, born and unborn alike.
