With tear-gas flying in the streets of Turkey, Ukraine's civil-war raging in the south and east, US drones based in Japan to oversee the South China Sea, and Europe's extremist parties gaining significant traction, today we get one more piece of considerably worrisome geopolitical news that global stock markets must ignore. The Sunday Times reports that Israel is to deploy three submarines equipped with nuclear cruise missiles in the Persian Gulf that are meant to act as a deterrent, gather intelligence and potentially to land Mossad agents. Iran is not happy, warning that "anyone who wishes to do an evil act in the Persian Gulf will receive a forceful response from us."...

Sometimes, a picture is worth a thousand geopolitical words, because if, say, the USA, France, or Great Britain had sold Israel any of their ballistic missile submarines, there would have been a veritable whirlwind of international outcry. But when Germany does it, nary a peep is heard, for obvious historical reasons. But few seem to be asking the pertinent question here: as Israel ratchets up the tensions with Iran, which cannot nuke anybody, what is Germany doing with u-boats with a capability to launch nuclear cruise missiles? Technically, of course, the German u-boats are not nuclear submarine, and technically, of course, they are not boomers or ICBM launching u-boats. And cruise missiles are not, technically, strategic offensive weapons. And technically, Germany doesnt even have cruise missiles, even though it is a German firm that is involved in building Frances latest submarine-launched nuclear ICBM. And why is Germany, a signatory to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, selling such deadly weapons to a regional power with its own dangerous political establishment?
Sorry for all the questions folks
just thinking out loud.
Oy!
Sure would be a shame if those Joooz were able to defend themselves!
One of my favorites:
Technically Israel will neither confirm nor deny they possess nuclear weapons....
Well, they aren’t “nuclear subs” ... they are subs that are armed with nuclear weapons.
And, it wasn’t Germany who armed them or made them armed. It was Israel who did the rest of the work (with the nuclear weapons) after Germany made the subs.
That doesn’t change the fact that they do have them. This “neither confirm or deny” was designed to give political cover to other nations who support Israel and actually helped them with their nuclear weapons. It’s merely a diplomatic maneuver on their part, nothing else. Everyone already knows without the least bit of doubt that they have nuclear weapons.
Good for Israel. Never back down.
A lot of beautiful women in Iran. Nukes is not the way to go.
Good for Israel , good move
Look up sarcasm.
Will we survive the Obama years?
That statement of yours was exactly what Israel does, and mine was why they do it. No sarcasm that I can see ... :-) ...
And I’m not even sure those submarines are classified as ‘ballistic missile submarines’ anyway.
The post I was responding used the word “ technically” about 5 times.
Well no, cruise missiles are “ technically” not ballistic missiles .
Well no, cruise missiles are “ technically” not ballistic missiles .
Ahhh ... :-) ...
There was an Iranian girl who sat right behind me in my differential equations class, back in 1978, who was just stunning. I still remember her vividly.
Israel needs more Jews and more nuclear weapons.
