Did you see what President Obama said about federal employees at a town hall meeting Minneapolis on Thursday?
The last question he took was from Katie Peterson, who works for the Defense Contract Management Agency.
My co-worker here and friend, weve been working for the federal government for almost 29 years. And we feel really privileged that weve been able to serve that way, she began.
Its been a great career, we love it, but lately, as you know, theres been a few rough patches with three years of pay freeze and sequestration and furloughs. And were just kind of wondering what you foresee for the next fiscal year for government workers, she asked.
Obama replied at length. Well let you read his answer for yourself in this transcript, courtesy of the White House, which was edited for length.
Well, let me make a couple of points. First of all, folks in the federal government, the overwhelming majority, they work really hard doing really important stuff.
(applause) I dont know when it was that somehow working for government whether the state or local or federal level somehow became not a real job, when you listen to some of the Republican rhetoric sometimes.

“because even in the VA health-care system, once people get in, the quality of care, the satisfaction rates for customers are actually better than in private sector health care. “
F’ing liar. Would any non-deluional person believe a VA quality survey? How many dead vets participated in the survey? The name 0bama is synonymous with lying and liars.
That’s right everyone on their knees and praise unto the federal worker! Then again maybe I’ll just go with a heartfelt KMA mr. mulato!
They're the ones who milk the cattle...
Pictures tell it all.
Maybe someone can shop that.
From D.C. to America.....Most appropriate.
No thanks. You do it Barry. They’re breaking all of our laws for you, not the American people.
Many federal employees (I hesitate to call them “workers”) should be in prison...or fired...or made to wander the hinterlands in sackcloth begging for forgiveness. (I believe I am being reasonable in my assertion...I did not say “all”)
I'm sorry, but if you have a job working for taxpayers in the federal government, you are not "serving", you are "working". You aren't special, you don't deserve thanks, or appreciation except for a job well done if you provide it.
You are just a worker, like every other worker. You get paid better than a private citizen, you get better medical, better pension, better working conditions, better benefits, and better job security.
I'm tired of being told I should be thankful for people who go into politics, or people who work for the federal, state, and local governments.
I'm thankful for the people who volunteer at the soup kitchen. They are doing something. Thanking a politician seems perverse.
“They get paid nearly twice what equivalent workers in the private sector are paid, cant be fired, get lavish vacations, top-notch health benefits, and laugh while theyre telling us to go screw ourselves.”
Parasitic government workers have become a political movement unto themselves; without them the Democratic Party wouldn’t exist (the unassimilated minorities that serve as their useful idiots don’t have sufficient numbers to impact anything). Thankfully here in NJ we ran out of money for them, and layoffs have sent many packing.
9/11 was a damning revelation of how bad things had gotten in the northeast; after 343 firemen were killed, the city didn’t replace them because they had wanted to downsize anyway. It is nearly impossible to lay them off, and this disaster was the only way the situation was rectified.
“If you get a government paycheck (Federal, state, county, municipal) and are not a uniformed member of the Armed Forces you are very probably my enemy and an enemy of the land of my birth. An enemy either in the economic sense or in the theft of God given rights sense.”
With the exception of certain units, one can safely assume that much of the military has become a workfare program. I recall the outcry of various members who fought tooth and nail to avoid being mobilized for the “Arab Wars” in the 90s, reaching out to the media to give their heart-rending stories about how their children would miss them etc. (after living off the taxpayers for decades). Today’s politically correct military has been fundamentally transformed; I have no objections when I see it is being downsized.
I know many who deserve praise. They’re not the ones he speaks of - those ones deserve jail along with he who would praise them.
Me too, they can’t get fired, or have a pension disappear.
