What looked like it could be an anomaly is beginning to look like a real thing in Kentucky. The Democratic challenger to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Alison Lundergan Grimes, is leading in a new poll from Public Policy Polling (PPP) by 2 points, on the heels of McConnells primary win. Thats right if this is McConnells post-primary bump, hes in trouble.
The poll contains a flood of bad news for McConnell. Eighty-nine percent of respondents are more likely to vote for a candidate who will pass legislation to create jobs. By an 80%-14% margin, voters (including 70% of Republicans) want a candidate that will close tax loopholes on millionaires. Seventy-eight percent of voters want a candidate who will end gridlock and partisanship. Seventy-six percent want a candidate that will make sure that the rich and corporations pay their fair share of taxes, and by a margin of 63%-31% voters oppose cutting taxes for the wealthy and corporations.
Mitch McConnell opposes everything that Kentucky voters said they supported in the paragraph above. Whats even worse for McConnell is that voters strongly oppose what he supports. McConnell has been a vocal supporter of tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. McConnell has personally blocked a wide range of job creation bills in the Senate, and he has publicly admitted that he is using gridlock as a strategy to destroy the Obama presidency.

But still within the margin of error. This will be a tight race to the end.
Let's stipulate to that. Then if the Senate comes out 50 - 50, you actually prefer a Senator who certainly will kowtow to Harry Reid, every time? Because that is what you will get. A better plan might be to put the heat on Mitch to own his failures and repent of his sins.
Ditch Mitch in KY.
Ditch Cochran in MS.
That will send a strong message to the GOPe’s.
Don’t piss on us. Don’t $hit on us. Don’t call us racist against members
of your own party, or you will pay a heavy price.
The friend of my enemy is also my enemy.
I can’t support a democrat, which also means I cannot support a republican.
I hope that McConnell's scorched earth strategy ends up burning him in the end.
He may get the candidates that he wanted, but he won't be there himself to enjoy the fruits of his betrayals of the base.

The most electable Republican, eh...at this point, I hope she wins.
No, it won’t make me happy. It is what it is. McConnell is 100% responsible for his own fate.
I am still washing off the stink of the crap that bastard has dropped on us here during the primary campaign. The fact that we have no palatable alternative doesn’t mean I will voluntarily be his butt boy.
McConnell used to be a judge advocate in Jefferson County back when. Jefferson County is spelled LIBERAL CORRUPTION.
Just because you like being dumped on and pissed on does not mean
the rest of us get our kicks from it.
Failing to oust the RINO Establishment is a problem that will continue indefinitely until the voters roll up their sleeves and do it.
Where do you keep your hay after you burn your barn down?
Enjoy getting stabbed in the back, huh? How'd 2000-2006 work out for ya? If memory serves, we had a R controlled House, Senate AND WH. We got the Patriot Act. No thanks. I'm done voting for the lesser of evil.
No change from liberals until you join. We want the GOP back without liberals. It will not change unless we elect Conservatives.
Grimes is a good looking woman. Voters are stupid, ignorant and shallow. Looks matter to them.
This country has the government it deserves. A minority of us don’t deserve it, but we got it anyway.
What are these tax loops on millionaires? Short of starting your own foundation where you give yourself lots of free perks and bennies, I just don’t know of any tax loops. And a million dollars is not enough to start a non profit foundation of any significance. Especially since most folks are going to spend their first two or three million making their own lives more comfortable - paying a landscaper, private school for the kids, nice cars, etc.
If McConnell loses, he will have only himself to blame.
You can’t continuously spit in the faces of your base, and then expect the base to turn around and vote for you. Unless you are a sociopath.
Oh, and I’d be all for closing the stupid non-profit loophole, but that’s going to put an awful lot of regular joes and janes out of jobs.
Some people enjoy being spit on. It floats their boat.
The poll shows people, even a majority of conservatives, will tend to always answer YES to poll questions asking whether we should tax the rich more, tax corporations more, etc. You could tax the rich 100%, and take the same poll tomorrow and get the same results.
This is a PPP poll which is a Democrat operation. They have a decent track record as polls go, but they also pull shenanigans like when they released that poll showing Akin still beating Claire in order to persuade him to stay in the race. Every other poll showed exactly the opposite. Akin never had a chance once he made a fool out of himself on the rape Q&A, and PPP knew it.
While there is an anti incumbency mood, my guess is once McConnell gets his machine rolling he will win by 4-5 points or more. Obama is just too unpopular in the South and in coal country and Grimes probably can't get the stink of Obama off her.
Lastly, it is almost sad logging in here now sometimes. Post after post, thread after thread of people rooting for Democrats to defeat Republicans. As if there was some magical time when Republicans were uber conservatives and this current incarnation of the "establishment" is more liberal than ever. As if the go-along, get-along, Bob Michel Republicans of the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, etc, weren't just as, if not more, milquetoast than what we've got now. Geeze people, get a grip, the TEA Party is forcing the Republican party, the only viable alternative to Democrats, to the right. Even when we don't win, we've generally pushed the "establishment" candidate to the more conservative side. All this rooting for Republican senate incumbents to lose to Democrats is just self defeating and stupid.
