I have enjoyed a couple of world cup games this time round, but there's no denying that soccer is a corrupt and arbitrary sport founded on diminished expectations, which makes it popular in third world, and by the same token very un-American.

I like that it is so hard to score a goal in soccer, I think that’s pretty unique. Seems to me the current trend of equating the sport’s potential to score points, goals, or runs so easily with great entertainment is definitely part of the general liberal trend nowadays. Give me a 1-0 complete game shut-out any day. Can’t say I’m a huge fan of ending in a tie or both scoreless, though.

You see the clock running, but it’s not running down. It’s going the other way. So your jaw is resting on your chin, eyes glazed over, and you’re thinking to yourself, “Will this ever be over?”
It’s something like listening in church to a blowhard right out of seminary, and the clock is at 163:00 and gaining, then some faggot runs onto the field, blows a whistle, waving his arms and everybody trudges off a field the size of Rhode Island.
And you’re sitting there thinking, “I’ll never get those two hours, or however long it was, back.”
