My neighbor had some trees cut down several months ago and I watched how the wood chipper took large limbs and spit them out into mulch in two seconds. Horrible to even think about a human being.
I worked at a paper mill once that had a giant stainless steel blender 10-12 across, 8 feet deep and blades like airplane props for use in blending up bales of pure white paper to add to the slurry if the color had to be adjusted.
A narrow catwalk with a low rail around the top brought to mind a fear of that white slurry turning pink.
Wouldn’t have even slowed it down.
My neighbor two houses down the street was having a large tree cut down yesterday. Same truck and wood chipper as shown these news articles. My two-year-old granddaughter was curious about the noise so I took her over to watch for a while from across the street. Huge limbs were swallowed in seconds and a spray of chips went into the truck. She was fascinated watching that spectacle. I noticed the worker was very careful to stand at the side and not in front of the mouth. Most of the time he threw a lot of limbs into the chute with the machine off, then powered it up at the side. That’s being careful.
