Amen to that! “Giving back” turns charity into a guilty sense of obligation.
People that make this statement are just looking for praise or sympathy.
By definition from past experience with my local community, if I “gave back” to them, it would have to be a lovecraftian nightmare and massive carnage, life rending events, and loss as that is what my local community wished and tried to give to me.
Sooooo, those who paste a plastic smile on and urge us to “give back” to the community should reaaaaallly think on what that truly entails.
