Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa on Monday subpoenaed an Obama administration lawyer he wants to grill for his IRS targeting probe, after the White House balked at sending her to a hearing set for Tuesday.
The California Republican wants to talk to Jennifer OConnor, former IRS counselor to the commissioner, about what she knew of ex-IRS official Lois Lerners disappeared emails. The White House says she is irrelevant, as her tenure predated the agencys discovery of the lost emails.

He also wants to hear from OConnor, who was hired on at IRS to serve as counselor to then acting Commissioner Danny Werfel from May 2013 to November 2013. One of her jobs was helping respond to congressional inquiries, and Issa wants to know if she knew of the lost Lerner emails.
The White House pushed back on that request late Monday, saying she is irrelevant to the probe since she had already left when the email problem was discovered by top IRS officials in February.
