This certainly is a crackpot plan. Not enough states.
We should break it up into acre-sized states.

More importantly it would divide the electoral college votes ...
Division of California into six states would require approval of both the California legislature and the US Congress. I don’t think either are likely.
On the other hand, some Texans believe that The Lone Star State is preapproved by Congress to split into up to five states, according to the 1845 congressional resolution admitting the State. I think I could deal with ten senators from Texas. (I was born in what would have been the State of Jefferson, according to a proposal floated about a century ago.)
