Almost. There is no "restore until you get about where you need to be data wise". The mail store is an .ese file (Jet database). It's all one big, monolithic file with no discernible sequencing or mailbox differentiation, so you have to mount the entire store to make any sense of it.
That’s why I hire the smart guys...leave the math to the student as on of my old professors used to say.
