The FBI targeted Winters by planting an informer to stooge him out and Winters made it easy for them by talking too much.

Remember OPSEC.

A lot (but not all) of the charges against Winters are for thought crimes - what he would do in a SHTF world.
But thanks to the Patriot Act, our police state government can easily turn idle talk into a federal crime.

Hmmm. Wonder when the lsm will declare him a Tea Party supporter? And, it has to be realized that, while the nsa can’t find lois’ emails, they could sure as hell find any one of ours. Keep on FReepin’ on. You KNOW they’re watching this site. :>}

What’s the destructive device that he is accused of making?

A gun?

The FBI had tried to arrest Winters on Monday as he was driving near Durant High School in east Hillsborough County, but he sped away.

This writer is terrible and completely misinformed. Winters fled on foot into a wooded area. He didn't "speed away."

He wore dark camouflage pants and a brown T-shirt, his face rimmed by a Zeus-like mane of churning black and white curls.

What is this? 11th grade English? You trying to win a Pulitzer with this tripe?

He's accused of designing and building destructive devices without a permit, among other charges.

And there's the rub. So it's not that he used them or sold them. He's just accused of designing and building them without a permit? So lemme ask knowledgeable FReepers: is the DESIGN of a "destructive device" illegal? I used to draw sketches of airplanes when I was in middle school. They were detailed down to wingspans, fuel capacities, and crew. Am I guilty of a crime for having drawn these fictional "destructive devices?"

I hope this guys is acquitted and sues the pants off the ATF for harassment. This is absolutely ridiculous. Prove to me that he sold these devices or that they even existed. I'm calling this whole damn thing a witch hunt.

FReepers beware! This is what our government wants to do to ALL of us!

The FBI’s idea of conducting an investigation is to wave money around hoping to attract potential informants, without which they couldn’t solve your average dog-bite case.

They've stepped up the bureaucratic involvement. I read a story years ago about a guy arrested by the ATF for having 'bomb-making materials'...which were nothing more than chemicals he had for keeping his saltwater fish tanks.

It's gotten beyond ridiculous.

I’m confused. What did he actually do?

At least they did not get to kill him like they hoped. His two daughters being with him would have presented no problem for them explaining their deaths as well as his. However, the deaths of two attorneys would have presented a problem for them to explain. The FBI agents are probably still cussing because not only did they not get to kill someone, they did not get to burn any live children to death.

I recall when the Obama Justice Dept. arrested a bunch of guys from Michigan and Indiana for similar charges. After spending a substantial time in jail awaiting trial the case turned out to be BS and fell apart. (They may have called their group the “Hutrees” or something like that). The moral of the story is if you appear on their radar they will manufacture some reason to put you down. STFU and do what you have to do within the law.

He also discussed elaborate plans to kill government agents in the event that they raided his property.

Isn't it better to use the generic term "zombies" when talking about protecting your property?

Three days and he surrendered for a cheese burger and fries.

Must have forgotten to store something.

Remember OPSEC.

And remember, the ones who are  trying to get people to build bombs are always feds.

The *real* crime they are concerned with here is having a lack of faith in “the system”.

“Anti-government rhetoric?” Whatever could be meant by that? I mean, the following could be considered anti-government rhetoric by these idiots:

Eliminating the income tax. Repealing the 16th or 17th Amendment. Term limits on Congress. Electing conservatives over RINOs or Democrats. Supporting RKBA. Ending the War on Drugs. Disbanding the TSA. And so on and so forth . . .

But Wilson didn't accept that.

"This is not just talk," the judge said. "There were, in fact, destructive devices found and sold."

"In fact", your (so-called) Honor?

Wouldn't we want to wait for an actual trial, so the "facts" can be proven or not proven?

Seems to me the Court has a verdict already....

To: Iron Munro; Joe Brower; MinuteGal; SoFloFreeper; left that other site; Joe Boucher; ...

So, now the meme of “Doomsday Prepper” rolls merrily on in the minds of the stupids. And the meme is further reinforced because he is anti-gov, pro-gun, white-heterosexual-male-over-50, and Christian.

As Sport observes, the Feds didn’t get their pound of flesh with Winters; that has to stick in someone’s craw.

As Piroque tells us, the judge already pre-tried and pre-hanged him.

And for those who have forgotten:

1st Rule of Prep Club: You do not talk about Prep Club.

2nd Rule of Prep Club: You DO NOT talk about Prep Club.

3rd Rule of Prep Club: If someone says “SHTF”, do a shot.

4th Rule of Prep Club: No more than two people to a retreat; one must be a buxom blonde coed for repopulating the human race.

5th Rule of Prep Club: One BOL at a time.

6th Rule of Prep Club: No tie-dye shirts, no socks with sandals, no ponytails, no drum circles.

7th Rule of Prep Club: Prepping will go on as long as it has to.

8th Rule of Prep Club: If this is your first post to Prep Club, you HAVE to buy all other preppers a shot.
