WASHINGTON -- Six Washington Redskins trademarks were cancelled by the U.S. Patent Office in a ruling on Wednesday. The ruling was made because the terms were found disparaging at the time they were registered. Fifty U.S. senators have urged the team to change their name.

Soon, biblical churches will be deemed “disparaging” and will be criminalized. Count on it.
This is the Obama Mafia getting it’s marching orders from the White Hut.
govt coercion
when they don’t have laws to control you, they’ll find another way
Another way to take peoples’ stuff away.
This definitely smells like Obama. Spiteful, childish, hateful.
Taking money away is exactly what they’re doing.
I can’t imagine redskins merchandizing stock is doing too hot right now.
ISIS is closing in on Baghdad, but POTUS can prioritize have “HIS” patent office pull the trademarks of a nearly 100 year old organization because HE deems the name “offensive” and/or “disparaging.” Total abuse of power by a petty little dictator.
Take that one to the Supreme Court. This government by force is way past being absurd.
I can’t see where the gov has moral, ethical or legal standing to deny a renewal. Not sure I can see this for a new patent either, but a little more understandable I think.

Can we get someone named McCarthy or O’Brian to sue to get the “Fighting Irish” trademark rescinded?
I could use some cheap Notre Dame logo gear.
The team was established in 1932.
Did they really find someone (alive now) who was "disparaged" by the name 82 years ago? Why did it take so long for the disparaged person to come forward?
Can a person be retroactively "disparaged." If so, I'd like to stake a claim on the name "Obama." It has been disparaging me for more than six years.
I think someone needs to assign some readings to our bureaucrats as to the meaning of “ex post facto”. I hope (but doubt) that the teams owners take it to court, as I see no authority to do any such thing.
eBay is going to be flooded with “Collectors Edition” sales, in 3-2-1... Heh.
The Redskins’ front/back offices aren’t cleaning out the closets, and are going to spend big on attys/lawsuits to kill this ruling. The Patent Office Marxists should be stood against a stone wall and... no, I won’t say it.
Harry Reid’s work again . Harry played a very part in the IRS Bull and now here he goes again
Destroying our culture, icons and traditions.
