Why Terry Gross Was a Mistake for Hillary Clinton (it was a devastating interview)

On Wednesday, during a tense exchange lasting more than seven minutes, Gross asked Clinton 10 different ways about the evolution of her stance on gay marriage. But, unlike some recent TV interviews Clinton has given, the takeaway was not Gross's pointed inquiries, but the fact that they seemed to get under Clinton's skin, who snapped back at her interlocutor.

"You know, I really, I have to say, I think you're being very persistent, but you are playing with my words and playing with what is such an important issue," Clinton said after trying to put the issue to rest several times.

Gross, attempting to smooth tension with a chuckle, replied, "I'm just trying to clarify so I can understand ... "

But Clinton fired back, "No, I don't think you are trying to clarify. I think you're trying to say that I used to be opposed, and now I'm in favor, and I did it for political reasons, and that's just flat wrong. So let me just state what I feel like you are implying and repudiate it."

The moment was over soon after that, and the interview moved onto friendlier territory for another 30 minutes, but America Rising, the GOP opposition research group, had already clipped the audio and blasted it out online, eclipsing anything else Clinton had to say.

It might!

I remember the Mudd interview well (or at least I think I do. Memory is funny like that.;-)

Like yesterday :) If I’m not mistaken, it was a Sunday evening — like LBJ’s speech 11+ years earlier saying he wouldn’t run again, if memory serves.

“She has a face made for radio.”

She has a face made for exorcism.

And although Hillary! is probably well past her “sell by” date as well, modern cosmetic surgery is probably good enough to push her over the finish line, IF she doesn’t self-destruct first.

For a “book signing tour” that was supposed to represent the beginning of the national “grassroots” move to demand that the US crown hillary as president, not unlike her “listening tour” of NY, this one didn’t quite measure up.

She is not to be discouraged, look for several more new versions of hillary to appear before the 2016 primary season. That White House belongs to her, dammit! Just ask hillary.

Why was BO allowed to “evolve”...within months of his second election...but Hillary! isn’t?

There was something very unusual about this interview.

Nobody from the left, or even the right, gets pushy with Hillary like that.

It seems the vast left wing conspiracy might be up to something.

I haven't listened to it, because I value my sanity to much to listen to more Hillary than it takes to change the channel, but I read through this section of the interview. It was pretty obvious to me that Gross thought she was being entirely sympathetic, and as far as the politics of it, was just saying things that everyone already knew as facts. It's pretty obvious from the transcript that Gross doesn't believe Clinton has an public position that is not politically calculated solely for her benefit rather than any particular beliefs or morals behind them.

It says a lot to me that people will know that up front about a person, yet still support them.

Could be.

Maybe what’s going on is simply that Hillary hasn’t done interviews much, and the more she does them the harder it becomes to keep the real Hillary hidden.
