The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) claimed Friday that it cannot produce Lois Lerners emails to and from the White House and other administration departments due to a supposed computer crash.
The IRS previously agreed to hand over all of the ex-IRS officials emails from 2009 to 2011 to the House Ways and Means Committee, chaired by Rep. Dave Camp. But the IRS claimed Friday that it has Lerners emails to and from other IRS officials but it cannot produce emails to and from the Treasury and Justice Departments, the Federal Election Commission, or Democratic offices.
The IRS computer crash may go down in history next to the eighteen and a half minute gap in the Watergate tapes, which was supposedly caused by a mistake by Richard Nixons secretary Rose Mary Woods.
The fact that I am just learning about this, over a year into the investigation, is completely unacceptable and now calls into question the credibility of the IRSs response to Congressional inquiries, Camp said in a statement. There needs to be an immediate investigation and forensic audit by Department of Justice as well as the Inspector General.
Just a short time ago, Commissioner Koskinen promised to produce all Lerner documents, Camp continued. It appears now that was an empty promise.

Does not even rise to that level. This is on the level of a four year old with frosting smeared across his face, with chocolated teeth, standing next to a cake with a handful clawed out, declaring that he did not touch it.
You pretty much nailed it. This is not an acceptable excuse these days.
Goodness these people are really getting away with murder and no-one in power seems to want to stop them - the GOP has given up the ghost - they ought to be taking the IRS to court to get independent auditors in the go over the computer systems.
This is such a flagrant lie that it is mocking anyone with any decency and makes a joke of the rule of law. It is absolute lawlessness.
I think the federal regulations for email storage were more fallout from Sarbanes-Oxley back around 2002. I remember lots of radio commercials for vendors happy to help businesses comply.
If the Republicans let them get away with this...
Just call the NSA. They copy everything, including this post, from what I have heard. ;~))

JUST WHAT MAKES YOU THINK WE DO THAT?
Besides, DOJ is getting right on it.
Holder your breath until you get the report.

Your including IF in that sentence is much like BO drawing another ‘line in the sand’.......
Soooooooo, did this happen before or after the WH Easter egg roll?
Issa stalled to long. What’s new?
Simple answer, find the guy who was responsible for making the backups and verifying that they were not corrupt and put him in jail for the rest of his life.
Hard drives and backup tapes.Even teenagers know that backups are rotated in at least 30-day cycles.
As soon as the IRS funny business was discovered, all existing backups should have been seized for evidence, and replaced. That necessity was a decision legally owned by many agencies outside the IRS, including the Department of Justice.
The House should suspend everyone from every agency responsible to insist on legal record-keeping required by law, until all the criminals are found. And the IRS budget should be frozen.
There IS a limit to the gullibility and patience of American citizens!
I’m sure we can count on Eric Holder’s DOJ to get right on this.
I’m sure we can count on Eric Holder’s DOJ to get right on this.
Really, really stupid and monumentally ignorant comparison.
Aside from the author of this incompetent article, no U.S. adult with an IQ over 70 needs an explanation as to why!
Obviously the contention that email files are lost is from some higher level manager. This is not Darrell Issa’s committee, but the Ways and Means Committee and they have greater authority over the IRS than Mr. Issa’s group. They will probably talk to the actual technicians operating the system (GS 9 and 11 level)who will not only know what actually happened by who will not put themselves at jeopardy to protect their managers. It will take time to sort out but that may be a good thing as we will have a new Attorney General in two and a half years. Remember, almost all the Watergate convictions came about after President Nixon left office.
Aside from evidence-tampering, serious enough by itself, there are at least 3 or four federal laws related to ALL federal agencies requiring timely and accurate record-keeping of everything!
The number of individuals on their way to the pokey should number no less than several thousands!
Is that some kind of Corporate law?
It’s so obvious that they’re lying, it’s silly.
You’ve got the RECIPIENT and the SENDER’S hard drives, you’ve got the servers, you’ve got all backup systems AND cloud storage. The Republicans need to raise hell about this on the Sunday shows and CALL A PRESS CONFERENCE on Monday. This needs to be none of the standing around and saying “well the administration is irresponsible,” they need to clearly say that there is CRIMINAL ACTIVITY OCCURRING at the IRS, DOJ, and FBI. There needs to be a clear statement about “Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”
But the Republicans will probably do nothing.
THE FRIGGIN NASA HAS COPIES OF EVERY EMAIL, TEXT AND PHONE CALL.
but emails are not emails until they are sent and if they were sent than they are lots of places
