Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel admitted that the trust has been broken between the White House and Congress following the Obama administrations decision to skirt U.S. law and release five top Taliban leaders without first consulting with lawmakers.
Hagel admitted to lawmakers on the House Armed Services Committee Wednesday that the administration unilaterally inked a deal with the Taliban to release five top prisoners from the Guantanamo Bay prison camp without first notifying Congress, as is legally mandated.
The deal was signed without providing 30 days notice to Congress, as is required by law, Hagel told lawmakers before attempting to justify the administrations decision to ignore this law.
The White Houses decision to skirt this law has prompted the House Armed Services Committee to launch a full investigation into the matter, lawmakers revealed on Wednesday.

“Trust” LOL.
I lie to a judge I’ll just say, “I can see our trust is broken” and go about my day.
re: Admits Ignored Law in Taliban Release The trust has been broken between Congress
And the penalty for that is.........................?
That’s what I thought.
And a good one it is, too.
There was ‘trust’?
That 30 day notification law was passed specifically to prevent this "transfer of detainees" from Gitmo after learning what 0bama was up to back in 2011. Reservations for a room for two at the Leavenworth graybar inn are in order.
no, it wasn’t just trust that was broken, THE LAW was broken.
btw The congress critter asking question later admitted it was Hagel’s actions (not his words) that showed he did not trust Congress.
I was listening to the hearing and Hagel did ok, the hapless GOP didn't lay a glove on him.
BTW less that 15% of the American public doesn't trust congress why should Hagel be any different.
There should be no further inquiry into this matter. There is only one thing congress should do.
Begin impeachment for willful violation of the law and failure to keep the oath of office of the President of the United States.
Simple. (but it needs to be swift)
- Too bad the Rinos in DC are really just the right wing of the government elitist party.
I think this particular horse got out of the barn quite some time ago.
Does anyone else have the eery feeling that obama is going out of his way to coddle terrorists and could care less about protecting American?
The Republic is lost.
Darn right it is. I give you full credit.
This really is Jimmy Carter 100% New and Improved
Hagel said, claiming that Obama has certain constitutional authorities that justify his decision.
The trust has been broken THIS time? What about all the other times he’s gone off on his own, signed EOs over Congress’s objections and spat on the Constitution?
I agree he is going down. He started out with his great-” I wake up every day with the security of this country number 1 on my mind.” Well, no one asked what he though the next morning after he let these killers loose?
What trust? That must have been broken many times before this.
The Zero hemmed and hawed. Hagel said straight up FU!
I was going to suggest Gitmo but that is WAY too good for these bastards.
