Canada-born U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz has made good on a promise to renounce his birth countrys citizenshipdoing so amid speculation he could make a run at the White House in 2016.
Spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said Cruzs action became official May 14 and that Texas junior senator received written confirmation at his home in Houston on Tuesday. She said the tea-party-backed Republican is pleased to have the process finalized.
Being a U.S. Senator representing Texas, it makes sense he should be only an American citizen, Frazier said in an email.

“Here is the section of the current U.S. Law that pertains to Senator Cruzs natural born citizenship status:
8 USC 1401”
Of course, I think we would all agree that the meaning of “natural born citizen” cannot be changed by some later enacted law. The constitution means what it meant when it was enacted. That being said, I think a foreign born child who had an American mother was probably what the founders had in mind when they said “natural born citizen.” I have never seen anything contrary. Cruz is eligible.
You are so wrong...even if you want to be ‘right’...Long live Ted Cruz...not so much for SadMillie...She deserves to be SAD...
Jim, please stop. The issue is resolved. The research is clear. I’m Sad but I will not lie to these people. I do them no service.
No. You stop. I support Cruz 100%. You can take your concern trolling elsewhete. It’s not appreciated hete.
Really? It says that in the Constitution?
The term was never specifically defined and the Constitution gave Congress the authority to determine who would or would not be defined as a Citizen at birth.
The only working definition of Natural born citizen is one who, by nature of his birth, is a Citizen. Ted Cruz meets that definition.
That is also the official definition of this forum. If you want to try to poison the well by spreading your "borders" nonsense, then I suspect that your stay here at Free Republic will be a short one.
Ted Cruz is eligible to be President and he is imminently qualified. He is also a better legal scholar than you.
sten and SAD MILLIE have decided that they know constitutional law better than one of the best constitutional scholars in the entire country. (Cruz).
How could we argue with that? /s
IATZ.
Looks like my warning came in a couple of minutes late.
See ya Sadmillie.
Good observation. Awfully coincidental that new GOP(e) type Freepers are popping up the same time momentum starts building for a 2016 Cruz run.
I didn’t know there was a zot. IATZ. Where are the Viking Kitties?
Ted Cruz Concern Trolling isn’t welcome here.
Where do these people come up with this stuff?
Millie said she got it from Wikipedia....I’m not sure even Wiki is that uninformed.

Is Ted Cruz going to renounce his Cuban citizenship, too? He obtained his Cuban citizen from his father who had not yet naturalized at the time Ted was born? Ted was born a tri-Citizen. He and the press seem to forget his Cuban citizenship at birth. He can renounce Citizenships now all he wants but he can never retroactively change the laws of nature and the facts at the time of his birth and his status at birth. He was not born with sole allegiance to the United States which is something being born to two U.S. citizens bless you with.
However the law in the U.S. Code under the 14th Amendment expanded that definition. 8 USC 1401 is the law of the land and it has never been ruled to be unconstitutional.
If Ted Cruz makes a decision to run for president his political fate and the fact of his birth in Canada will be decided by the mechanisms of a republican form of government in the exact same way that Obama having a Kenyan father determined his fate:
(1) having to campaign for a full year and do reasonably well in more than twenty primay election debates and 53 primary elections and/or party caucuses to win the Republican Party nomination. Any opposing Republican primary candidate can raise the issue of his birth in Canada for Senator Cruz to be forced to address.
(2) he will have to clear placement on the states’ ballots by Chief Elections Officials, usually an elected Secretary of State, in 50 states plus the District of Columbia;
(3) Cruz will have to do reasonably well in three nationally televised presidential debates where opposing candidates can raise the issue;
(4) he will need to raise, at a minimum, half a billion dollars;
(5) he will need to capture at a minimum, 60 million popular votes from voters who will decide whether his birth in Canada disqualifies him from getting their vote;
(6) he must garner 270 Republican electors;
(7) he will have to have his electoral votes counted and certified by both Houses of Congress where any one Representative and any one Senator can submit to the President of the Senate (the Vice President) a written objection to his electors.
(8) He must have an official who is willing to administer the Oath of Office.
(9) and finally he will have to withstand any legal challenges to his eligibility that may be filed pre or post election (For example, Obama has had 226 original jurisdiction legal challenges to his eligibility; 93 state and federal appellate court rulings and 23 appeals to the Supreme Court of the United States for a total of 342 legal challenges).
If Ted Cruz survives all that, he can be President or Vice President.
No offense but I’m not going to take your word or Wikipedia’s word for what will happen in the future. The American voters will decide Senator Cruz’s fate, if he decides to run.
The U.S. Constitution is “old law” but I’m sure you’ll agree that its pretty good law although its 226 years old.
Millie seemed a few slices short of a full loaf.
Looks like Millie got really Sad. She rode the zot. No-one can say I didn’t warn her.
You certainly did try to warn her. I’m surprised Sad Millie lasted as long as she did. She was warned...and just kept on jabbing.
LOL....telling The Boss to “stop” is not the smartest route to take, Sad. He warned you not to be a problem on the Sen Cruz thread.
Enjoy your Viking Kittehs...and the ZOT dragons.
By all means, keep it up, newbie, and post a vanity about it, detailing your logic.
