Sen. Cruz formally gives up Canadian citizenship

Canada-born U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz has made good on a promise to renounce his birth country’s citizenship—doing so amid speculation he could make a run at the White House in 2016.

Spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said Cruz’s action became official May 14 and that Texas’ junior senator received written confirmation at his home in Houston on Tuesday. She said the tea-party-backed Republican “is pleased to have the process finalized.”

“Being a U.S. Senator representing Texas, it makes sense he should be only an American citizen,” Frazier said in an email. …

‘natural born citizen’ is a subset of ‘US citizen’

Of which there are two sub-sets, "naturalized" and "natural born" (or, if you prefer, citizen-at-birth).

Cruz was never naturalized, was he?

Ergo, he was of the natural-born variety.

the implication of ‘after WW2’ would be the months following the war... not 20 years later in korea or vietnam

if you meant kids of those stationed overseas, then there was no point in bringing up WW2.

You distinguish between jus sanguinus, jus soli and "natural-born" citizens.

American citizenship law makes no such distinction.

You have fallen for a hoax and a forgery. John McCain was born at the “Family Hospital” which was really a small clinic at the Coco Solo Naval Air Station in the Panama Canal Zone. Senator Mc Cain’s birth certificate was signed by Navy Captain W.L. Irvine, director of the Coco Solo medical facility.
The Family Hospital was replaced with a new full service hospital at a later date.
Also, Roberta McCain, the Senator’s mother is still alive at age 102 and she knows where she gave birth!
Here’s a link to back up what I’m saying:

2 citizen parents and born on the soil. it’s that simple.

If it was that simple you wouldn't be making all these posts.

I must respond because of the sad amount on constitutional ignorance being argued with such futility. Please don”t confuse Citizenship with eligibility to be president. Please read Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution sets the requirements to hold office. A president must:

be a natural-born citizen of the United States;[note 1]
be at least thirty-five years old;
have been a permanent resident in the United States for at least fourteen years.

“Natural born” means born inside the borders of this country. That is why Henry Kissinger could not be president— Arnold Swartznager could not be president and why Ted Cruz cannot be president. It is right there in the constitution. It is so foreign born cannot invade the country and take it over.

I will gladly Amend it to allow Canadian born but until there is an amendment ,we who love the Constitution must read it.

“The Constitution does not say, in words, who shall be natural born citizens. Resort must be had elsewhere to determine that.”—SCOTUS, Minor v. Happersett (1875).

...."That is one good-looking family".... It's exactly what this country needs...I'm sick and tired of watching the current first lady(?), jumping rope, doing hula-hoops, rap-dancing etc....and the White House being used as a playground for adults!

I'm familiar with the document, my friend.

I'm also familiar with American citizenship law.

Good day.

“Natural born” means born inside the borders of this country.

And where is that defined?

is why Henry Kissinger could not be president— Arnold Swartznager could not be president and why Ted Cruz cannot be president.

Unlike Kissinger and Schwartzenegger, both of whom were born in foreign countries of non-citizen parents, Cruz was born in a foreign country with one citizen parent. And under the laws in place at the time that conveyed natural born citizen status upon him.

It is so foreign born cannot invade the country and take it over.

I'll take my chances with Cruz.

I will gladly Amend it to allow Canadian born but until there is an amendment ,we who love the Constitution must read it.

And I might support such an amendment if you can point out where the Constitution defines natural born citizen.

it is that simple.

i’ve said the same thing time and again to people that can’t spend 5 minutes reading the posts and instead respond from emotion.

same things i was saying in 2008 and 2012 when 0bama was on the ballet.

Here is the section of the current U.S. Law that pertains to Senator Cruz’s natural born citizenship status:
8 USC 1401
“The following shall be nationals and citizens of the United States at birth:
a person born outside the geographical limits of the United States and its outlying possessions of parents one of whom is an alien, and the other a citizen of the United States who, prior to the birth of such person, was physically present in the United States or its outlying possessions for a period or periods totaling not less than five years, at least two of which were after attaining the age of fourteen years...”

All sections of the U.S. Code of Laws function under the Constitution unless and until they are ruled to be unconstitutional.

No court has ever ruled that there is a difference between a “natural born citizen” and a “citizen of the United States at birth.”
