Ted Cruz calls to repeal ‘every blessed word of Obamacare’
MSNBC ^ | 6 Jun 2014 | Emma Margolin

“Today, liberty is under assault,” declared conservative firebrand Ted Cruz before an adoring audience Friday at the Republican Party of Texas State Convention.

The GOP senator and Tea Party darling left virtually no red meat unthrown, calling for a return to the Constitution – “the most extraordinary document crafted in history” – a resurrection of American leadership abroad – where “bullies and tyrants are laughing at [us]” – and a rebuilding of jobs and economic growth at home, through adhering to free market principles, supporting “the American energy renaissance,” abolishing the Internal Revenue Service, and repealing “every blessed word of Obamacare.”

On the subject of the Constitution, Cruz declared that religious liberty was under fire, and blasted the recent controversy over the IRS’s alleged targeting of conservative groups that applied for nonprofit status. In one instance, an Iowa-based anti-abortion group was asked to provide information about its members’ prayer meetings, according to documents sent by an IRS official to the organization.

“You know what, the federal government has no business asking any American the content of our prayers!” said Cruz to roaring applause.

The Texas senator also touched on a high-profile federal case, in which the Colorado-based Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged is suing the Obama administration over an accommodation under the Affordable Care Act’s requirement that insurance cover contraception without a co-pay. Earlier this year, the Supreme Court affirmed a compromise that allows the religious nonprofit to sign a form certifying its objection to contraception, before sending it to an insurer who can then provide the coverage directly.

“Let me give you a simple rule of thumb,” said Cruz. “If you’re litigating against nuns, you’ve probably done something wrong.”

I can hardly imagine anything better than a Cruz-Carson ticket. I’d be first in line when the voting booth opens up for such a ticket.

Cruz has the principles and the ability to take on the media, the Democrats, and the GOPe all at the same time. It would overwhelm anyone else. Cruz is brilliant and he knows where he stands. He is also fearless and uncompromised. The press will shortly undertake a propaganda war to destroy Cruz now. They want Jeb to run so they can help Hillary defeat him. If Cruz got the nomination, the debate itself would impact public opinion and policy. They want the debate to be on liberal ground—then when they win, they build on Obama’s legacy. They fear Cruz—because he would fight to undo the damage.

So true what you say about Jeb. Jeb is the RINO way of electing another democrat.

It’s going to be an interesting presidential primary season. The Republican presidential debates may actually be worth watching this time around.

Even if he won, the damage to the liberal cause would be minimal: Obamacare, Amnesty, Common Core, War on Coal, War on Marriage, War on the Constitution—everything would be intact under Jeb. They would prefer Hillary, of course, but Jeb would be an acceptable placeholder.

Plus... I’ll bet it scared the libs when another BIG lib, Alan Dershowitz, recently said how brilliant Cruz is. It’s comforting to know that some of ‘em are able to think and not toe the party line.

Yes, that certainly got their attention. Dershowitz has recently begun to realize that the LEFT sides with the Islamists and their desire for Israel’s demise.

Thanks. I hope Cruz surrounds himself with people like himself and not the usual political hacks who have lost us election after election. Reagan stood on principle and Cruz should too.

If your a Texan, the opposite of bless-ed is cuss-ed.

And you realize how the use of ‘blessed’ in this instance is akin to the very fun use of ‘Bless your/his/her heart’.

;-)

I agree. There is nothing about Jeb that would cause the democrats any degree of discomfort whatsoever.

I would (much) rather see Cruz strongly support American production and American employment, than to see Cruz take a stand against Obamacare.

Just saying.

American needs to bring back American jobs.

First. Then we can talk about Obamacare, but first of all we must fix our jobs situation.

Neither party is doing anything in that regard.

Bring back American jobs.

What methods do you propose to bring back American jobs?

Also, did you know it is impossible to search for you without shortening your name to “cringingnegativismne”?

To start with, stop importing everything from China.

We currently import 440 billion dollars worth of goods from China. (2013 total)

We only export 122 billion dollars worth of goods to China.

Bring back American manufacturing.

Given what you know about the importance of comparative and absolute advantage in free exchanges what affect do you think that would have?

How about on the division of labor?

Do you have any historical evidence that America is better off when “trade deficits” are lower or zero?

If we cut off all trade with China, but it was simply replaced with trade from other foreign sources what policy would you suggest next to end trade with countries other than America?

I am advocating we, balance our trade with China.

Balance.

If China refuses to balance our trade, then we can talk about cutting off trade, but I believe you would find a whole huge lot of Americans who are deeply uncomfortable about current trends.

We run a massive trade deficit with a nation, which doesn’t even grant Americans equal rights.

That nation has a massive population.

I am deeply concerned that neither American party seems to care one bit, about our own nation.

Not Republicans. Not democrats. Nobody.

Someone stand forward for America.

I sure hope the party to do so first, is the Republicans.

That is all I am saying.

I see ZERO evidence of that so far.

Cruz is the only man in Washington with Balls enough to call for it's repeal.
I have not heard one slimy GOP rep call for it from the leadership.

…every blessed word? Don't know that there is even one of them in that monstrosity.

He's from Texas. He probably means that in the same context as when they say "Well, bless your heart"
