I’m sorry, but when you lay down your weapons, sneak out of camp and go seek out the enemy with the intent of joining them, and then they hold you onto you as a prisoner*, that does not make you a “prisoner of war” - maybe a prisoner of your own stupidity. To call Bergdahl a POW is to insult the memory of all of the men and women who were captured in the course of actually defending their country no attempting to abandon and betray her.
*This is assuming he really was a prisoner, of course. Some comments published by captured members of the Taliban raise the question of whether or not Bergdahl was actively assisting the Taliban, and if he was, whether or not he was doing so voluntarily or under duress.
What I want to know is this: how many good men were injured or killed putting those scumbags behind bars in the first place? What about those who will die now that they are free? And what about those who will be injured or die when we have to capture them again?
Obama didn’t only trade five monsters for one captive of questionable value. He potentially traded the lives of countless other servicemen as well.
Did we get the leg back?
Someone should have put another sign next to it that said “So are 5 of the most dangerous terrorists from GITMO. Thanks, 0bama”.
