I’m watching the evening news. They said he was promoted two times while “in captivity.” This was discussed on another thread. Apparently, it is standard practice for POW's. They are promoted to the next grade as soon as they have met the minimum time in previous grade.
It includes waving any of the usual prerequisites, like training.

This is true, our own Matt Maupin was a PFC when he went missing and a SSG when he was found.
