Sheesh. What is with all the second amendment hate here?
I carry open on occasion and concealed all the time. I like to have options. It is rallies like this that are making it safe to carry concealed. How you ask? Because in places where no one ever sees a gun they freak out if you accidentally show your concealed carry piece. Accidents can happen it is not cool to have the cops storm in and gun you down. In places with open carry people are use to seeing ordinary citizens with guns. I see them all the time around here and I find it comforting. Not everyone wants to ask for permission to exercise a right. And don’t give me any of that blah blah concealed is better. Sure it is... so is walking around in body armor but not every ‘better’ option is always practical. I like having options and I am sick and tired of so-called allies telling me which options I should and shouldn’t use. Yall and the ATF and all the other haters can buzz off.

Amen. it’s also nice for someone to have the option of open carrying (maybe when carry a wad to the bank) when they don;t have the months to get a carry permit. Or don’t want to worry about getting in trouble on their permit for accidentally revealing their pistol.

The secondary purpose of this is to work for legalizing open carry (in TX, where this occurred). Simply showing that no harm comes from open carry of rifles shows that none will come from allowing pistol carry.

The primary thing is that of restoring the gun culture, and countering the demonization of guns and gun owners. Like gays have won their battle by making their culture in the mainstream instead of hidden, gun owners need to make their interests main stream.

Even with advances in defensive carry rights nationwide in the last generation, the gun culture is at risk of dying. there’s no reason it shouldn’t be “normal” to have a pistol or rifle in public. When it is, then we will have won, and the false fears of the left will have lost all credibility.

Often true, but only for selfishly protecting oneself. For changing hearts and minds, open carry is the way to go.

A civic leader who concealed carries to his Chamber of Commerce meeting every week does nothing for the cause. One who carries openly can make a big difference.

Same thing I'm wondering. Threads like this are good ones to draw out the quislings though.

As a daily CC I agree, but in this case, you've got the public opinion now turning to focus on banning long gun open carry (legal today) instead of supporting handgun open carry. I believe the 2nd amendment makes all carry legal, but I can assure you, in Texas, if you open carry a handgun in public, you will be arrested, prosecuted and convicted.
