Open carry demonstrations are designed to “scare the straights” anyone who says different is lying to you.
It worked in CA. The gov was saying “since you can carry open, not giving you concealed permits doesn’t violate your right to bear arms”. People started carrying open like the gov said and made the tyrants mad enough to ban the practice. Now they’ve go legal standing to try to get “shall issue” concealed permits.
If the guys in TX are trying to get open carry of long guns banned they are doing fine. Maybe they think they can get open carry of pistols or constitutional concealed carry or something.
The NRA didn’t mention any of this. I read their release, it sounded like it came straight from Bloomberg. I have been an NRA member off and on all my adult life. I’ve always given them the benefit of the doubt, but now I am officially done defending them.

You have to choose your battles.
Open carry of long guns is permitted in Texas, but handgun open carry is not. The public, even the moderate 2nd amendment supporters have turned against them. Not only will this result in Long gun open carry being banned, they won’t get handgun open carry.
