The vast majority of the four million people who voted for the UK Independence Party in the European elections will make the same choice at the general election, a new poll predicts today.
The poll by ComRes suggests that 86 percent of people who voted for Nigel Farages party will do so again next year.
More than 4.3 million people voted for UKIP in the European elections, giving the party its first national victory. The Conservatives came third, suggesting many of their previous supporters had defected to UKIP. Several Cabinet ministers have publicly said that many UKIP voters are merely lending their votes to UKIP this year and will return to the Tory fold ahead of the general election; but the poll, conducted in the days after the European election, casts doubt on those predictions.
The survey found that 37 percent of UKIP voters said that they were certain to support the party at the general election. Another 49 percent said that they were likely to do so, while 14 percent said that they would probably back another party.

i’ll have some of what they’re having. USIP sounds good to me.
USIP with a picture of a tea cup as the logo :p
This is an important election. Shows there’s still some life left in the old island.
“USIP with a picture of a tea cup as the logo :p”
Damn, that’s a good logo. Never thought of that before..
My only objection to Farage is his banging on about the UK being a poodle of the USA - a most boring charge that seems always to spring to British lips whether from right or left. Britain chose to engage in various wars with the United States but continually needs to feel like a victim of its own decisions.
At one time, the UKIP platform said that Israel had to have “proportional” responses to Islamic terrorism too.
Oh,the old proportional theory of war trick! So, UKIP has some anti-Semitic overtones? I’m surprised because Pam Geller is a huge supporter of them. She’s the anti-Islamist American who got banned from visiting the UK!
I’ve been looking at some You Tube videos of Farage. He’s very good on the internal troubles of Great Britain - and of course, I love his bashing of the EU.
Asia Israel and PalestineI have no idea if the party has abandoned these positions. I cant find this document on the UKIP website of today, but that does not mean they do not have it stashed away.
16.4 UKIP fully supports the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state and recognizes the despicable anti-Semitism in European history, culminating in the Holocaust. Israel is surrounded by hostile states committed to its destruction. The tiny state has been the frequent victim of rocket attacks and suicide bombings from terrorist groups, almost all deliberately targeting civilians. Israel has every right to respond with proportionate force to these attacks, and a UKIP government would do the same were Britain similarly threatened. UKIP rejects the notion that Israel should be punished through sanctions or cancellation of trade deals (such as the EU-Israel Association Agreement) for defending itself from attack.
16.5 UKIP urges Israel to adopt a lasting solution based on a political dialogue and not just military strength. Political problems require political solutions. As with any genuine friend, UKIP reserves the right to be critical of Israel. We urge the Israeli army (IDF) to be proportional in its operations.
UKIP is particularly concerned by the alleged use of white phosphorus on the battlefield by the IDF and by allegations of Gaza Strip blockades which hinders reconstruction. Allegations that the Israeli secret service, Mossad, stole the identities of British citizens to forge passports for a hit squad that carried out an assassination in Dubai is also deeply concerning. UKIP is an ally of Israel, as is Britain, and if the allegations are true, it would be a damaging abuse of our friendship that Israel chose to abuse the identities of nationals of a supportive country.
16.6 UKIP calls for an immediate halt to the building of new settlements considered illegal under international law.
16.7 UKIP wishes to see a peaceful and mutually amicable settlement reached between Israel and the Palestinians. It is not for us to set the terms for these talks, nor the boundaries for any peace deal. This is an issue the Israelis and Palestinians must work out between themselves. UKIP would offer assistance if invited to do so by either party, based on the experience of the Northern Ireland Peace Process.
They’ve got to do it, they’ve got to throw the bums out!
Britain has been brought to the brink of cultural ruin by both the Tories and Labor.
They need a complete housecleaning - time for a new broom.
That was very nice of you to dig that out. I’m sure it’s still in their back pocket and just stashed away from the public eye.
I must say I am bewildered why so many still relatively small political parties have to have huge statements about the one democracy in the Middle East. In my opinion, Israel is none of UKIP’s business.
As many here who relish in the idea that an inference to anything tea delights them, I stand that the message should not be a modern day symbol that the media and the ruling elites will and have made the subject to purposely obfuscate the message, but instead let them attempt to malign and diminish the founders. This is why I stand for the Gadsden Flag or any other one of its time.
Reset to 1791.
Pity it isn’t the BNP getting these results. UKIP is NOT strong enough against the Islamic threat, and I believe even has Muslims in leadership positions.
Color me confused.
There are 63 million people living in Great Britain as of 2012. There are almost 50 million registered voters, and in the last big party election in 2010, almost 30 million voted.
So how can 4.3 million voters win anything there?.
They feel that UKIPers and Tea Partiers can be bought off with a bit of rhetoric and will back Mitch McConnell types in the "real" elections, and are not looking for genuine reform, but a few tweaks here and there .... especially in immigration, and will accept a "fix" to Obamacare, rather than repeal. Establishment types believe, Republicans (and Tories) will tire of "reform" and not wish to endanger pork and perks from which they think they benefit. Also, The Establishment will play the hell out of the Race Card, because they believe UKIPers and Tea Partiers will shy away from being called "racists."
Well, we'll see, won't we?
I’m sure they will try to mock the tea cup logo, but its no more as funny than a donkey or an elephant logo. Updated version of the Gadsden Flag could also work
