Thad Cochran Refuses to Debate McDaniel Again: America 'Is Not a Debating Society'

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi — Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS) provided a new explanation for his refusal to debate his primary challenger that is sure to give fodder to critics who say that after six terms he feels entitled to his seat.

“This is not a debating society,” Cochran said explaining his decision not to debate McDaniel. “This is a race for the United States Senate.”

Cochran went on to say the voters of Mississippi will decide who wins. “The people are going to decide who wins the race,” he said. “Nothing that I can say is going to make much of a difference. It’s too late in the campaign. Most everyone has made up their minds.”

“I’m looking forward to celebrating a victory on election night,” Cochran added.

This remarks are the latest Cochran has provided regarding why he won't debate McDaniel. First, he and his campaign would not respond when asked why they won’t debate. Second, in late April, Cochran told the Associated Press he won’t debate McDaniel because “he’s trying to make me look bad.” Third, in mid-May, Cochran spokesman Jordan Russell told reporters—while appearing in Cochran’s place at a press conference that McDaniel had on the Mississippi State Capitol steps in Jackson—that Cochran won’t debate because McDaniel, in his words, is a “liar.”

“Why would we put Sen. Cochran on stage with a liar?” Russell said then. “We’re just not going to do that. We’re not going to dignify that.”

“Those are really strong words,” McDaniel said after returning to the stage to rebut Russell. “Sen. Cochran is supposed to be a 42-year incumbent who’s a gentleman. I’m shocked that his staff would behave like that.

Cochran: "why you dare have the effrontery to try to remove me from power and THEN TO DEMAND that I debate you?? Don't you know who I am? I don't need to justify my votes to the people. They should just continue electing me until I decided to retire or am removed by a democrat. Those are the only two options, you little whippersnapper!"

Sure he did, and while McDaniel vs. Cochran wouldn't be the same type of intellectual firefight that dabate teams would study for more than a hundred years, Cochran knows he would get his ass kicked.

That is the bottom line that the McDaniel has to reiterate constantly. Cochran is afraid to debate him, because his record is indefensible, and his intelligence is questionable.

OK, either we the people start cleaning out this mess or we deserve to lose this great country. These people think they are aristocracy and we’ve allowed that cesspool in DC to spawn this kind of thinking.

The three things in this word that liberals hate most:

The reason liberals hate these is because they each allow open debate. Liberals do not wish to debate. Liberals wish to lecture (which is why they make up a disproportionate share of academia).

Thad Cochran is outing himself as a liberal here. And not just a liberal, but an exclusive member of the elitist Senate One Hundred Club. It has been a very long time since Cochran actually did what he was elected to do, which is represent the great state of Mis'sippi in the federal legislature. Instead, he looks at his Senate position as a lifetime Club member.

See ya Thad.

A string of late endorsements may be helping Chris McDaniel, the Tea Party candidate challenging Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., shake off the side effects of a photo scandal involving one of his supporters, with the latest endorsement coming from the father of one of McDaniel's most relentless opponents.

Sarah Palin, Jeppie Barbour and Rick Santorum have all stepped up for McDaniel in the past two weeks, but I haven't seen any recent polls.

Any Mississippi FReepers know what is going on in the state?

McDaniel could really torment him by suggesting he is so arrogant that if he loses the primary, he will become an Independent or a Democrat because he loves cocktail parties in the Beltway of Washington so much.

I can barely wait to VOTE FOR Chris McDaniel.

I’m beginning to truly and entirely despise Cochran.

I’ve been polled 4 times.
I think McDaniel is leading.

That’s what I think too. If Thad were waxing McDaniel that’s all we’d hear about from all the MSM.

Thanks for the ping onyx!

I’m beginning to truly and entirely despise Cochran.

I live in a neighborhood of mostly older retired folks that never miss an election. I got one of the more active ones that does a lot of visiting old friends to come sit down in my office. I started by googling "Mr. and Mrs. Thad Cochran". I showed him the images. Then I went about explaining the facts. He was FLOORED!

I asked him if he would help me spread the word. His response was, "Absolutely!" Thad needs to be sent home to his family. He will not do it on his own. Too much fun globe-hopping with his mistress on the taxpayers' dime. He disgusts me!
